README.NOW file
Now that you have AnalytiCalc, there are a few things you NEED TO
KNOW about it.
FIRST: You MUST turn interlace ON in preferences on whatever
system you'll use AnalytiCalc with. If you don't, you'll get weird
crashes because AnalytiCalc uses the workbench screen and just creates
windows on it. Some are on the lower half screen in interlace mode. If
you're not in interlace, that half doesn't exist, and you see the good
old GURU.
SECOND: If you only have 512K, don't increase the stack, and run
AnalytiCalc from CLI only. It's a tight fit, but I've been told it fits
in 512K and will run. If it acts flaky, try increasing the stack as much
as you can (probably won't be much).
THIRD: The input you type in usually will be in the main (top)
spreadsheet window. There ARE some rough edges and if input in the main
window fails, it probably is being read from the auxiliary (lower) window.
Some of that will be cleaned up in a later release, but for now, please
just be a little flexible.
AnalytiCalc has a RAW: window in the top (main) window so it does
not need a special keymap now. It just interprets escape sequences.
The auxiliary window is a CON: window and is used for "normal"
FORTRAN type I/O.
When you get a prompt in the auxiliary window, input generally is
needed THERE. When you get a prompt in the main window, input usually is
needed there, but at times is needed in the auxiliary window. This happens
a lot more often than needing input in the main (top) window when something
is typed in the lower one. (I can't think of any cases where a prompt in
the lower window needs input in the upper one.)
Things to come:
1. I have the old Scientific Subroutine Package ready to release for
Amiga. Release will be in sources, complete with comments. Free, public
domain, just as it was in the VAX version I got.
2. The RIM DBMS (a complete but somewhat old relational DBMS) is
almost ready. It compiles clean now. It will be released like AnalytiCalc;
that is, cheap shareware, all sources included. It has a programmable
interface and we've typed the documents in. The Amiga version is a port
of the IBM PC port of the VAX port of the CDC original version. (wow).
3. A rewrite of a bunch of the user interface of AnalytiCalc to add
mice, menus, and some cleanups of where input comes from. I may add more
colors and somehow automagically ensure interlace too, if it'll not make
things bigger. Much. There may be a cleanup first, then a dedicated screen
version; I'm concerned that a new screen might make it fail to fit in
512K.
Enjoy...
