The CELLS program implements the cellular automata environment called
"Wireworld" described by A. K. Dewdney in the Computer Recreations collumn
of the Scientific American, January 1990.
It needs access to the DiskFont.Library on your system disk, and to the font
called Moonstone.Font in the Fonts directory on this disk. Either copy the
contents of this Fonts directory into your system FONTS: directory, or use
the ASSIGN command to make FONTS: point to this directory.
Finally, the Cells.Help file contains information used by the on-line help
system that is part of the program. It should be in the current directory,
or you can use ASSIGN to create a name called HELP: that points to where
the Cells.Help file is located.
To get help once the program is running, simply press the HELP gadget on
screen, or press the HELP key on the keyboard. All of the program's
functions are described in full in the on-line help document.
The CIRCUITS directory contains example files of cellular circuits and parts
libraries created using CELLS. These include example used by the author to
answer the questions posed by Mr. Dewdney in his article. A printed copy of
the letter sent to Mr. Dewdney explaining these circuits can be requested
from the author.
The .COLORS files are sample screen-color files that can be used to set the
colors for CELLS. See the on-line documentation for more information about
color files.
