CalcKey (V1.0)

CalcKey is a basic four function calculator intended to save you from
having to hunt down your pocket calculator every time you want to do a simple
calculation to enter a number into your spreadsheet, database, wordprocessor,
editor or whatever. The great advantages of CalcKey over other Amiga
calculator programs are:
1. It is a memory resident pop-up program. This means that you can
load the program into memory from your start up sequence and then
forget it is there until you need it. CalcKey will hide itself
away until you enter a special keystroke to wake it up. Pressing
this key will 'pop-up' the calculator window which you can then
use as you would a normal calculator.
2. CalcKey can automagically type the answer to any calculation into
the program you were using when it was popped up. This means that
you don't have to remember the number and type it in again,
avoiding errors.
3. CalcKey supports hexadecimal and octal arithmetic and conversion
between decimal, octal and hexadecimal.
4. CalcKey only uses up about 24K of your precious memory.
USAGE:
CalcKey can be run from:
- The WorkBench
Just double click its icon.
- The CLI
Simply enter the command "CalcKey".
(Note: The CalcKey program should be placed in the C:
directory of your system disk.
There is no need to enter "Run CalcKey" as entering
the command "CalcKey" loads the memory resident
calculator and then returns you to the CLI prompt "1>".)
- Your "startup-sequence" file
Insert a line containing the command "CalcKey"
To use CalcKey press [ALT][=] (i.e. Press and hold down either ALT
key, then press the '=' key, and then release both keys) to pop up the
calculator window. You can then use it as you would a normal calculator.
You can use either the keyboard keys or the mouse (point to the buttons
on screen and click the left mouse button) to select numbers and operations.
To make CalcKey type the number currently displayed into your
application, either press the RETURN key or click on the ===>> gadget.
CalcKey will then disappear and you will see the number appear in the
application you were using, just as if you had typed it yourself.
CalcKey has a single number memory. To store the currently displayed
value in its memory press 'm' (or click on the [M] button). To recall a
stored value press 'r' (or click on [MR]). To add or subtract the currently
displayed value to the value in memory click the [M+] or [M-] button.
CalcKey will let you work in either base 8 (octal), base 10 (decimal)
or base 16 (hexadecimal). You can use the mode gadget to select which
base you wish to use. The mode gadget toggles between OCT, DEC and HEX.
Alternatively you can select hexadecimal mode by pressing the 'h' key,
octal mode by pressing 'o' or decimal mode by pressing 's'. When changing
to a new base the previously displayed number will be converted to that
base. In HEX mode use the buttons labelled 0-9, A-F to enter digits or
the equivalent keyboard keys. In octal mode you are limited to the digits
0-7. Decimal points can only be entered when in decimal mode.
When entering numbers pressing the backspace key on the keyboard will
delete the last entered digit. Pressing the 'c' key when in hexadecimal
or octal mode will clear the display.
Pressing the HELP key or selecting the HELP menu option will provide
a brief summary of some of the key commands.
If you have performed your calculation but don't want CalcKey to send
the answer to your application, just press [ESC] or 'q' to make CalcKey
disappear until you need it again.
If you no longer wish to use CalcKey or you need to free up some more
memory, you can remove CalcKey from memory by pressing 'u' (for Unload).
CalcKey has a single menu with four options. The options are:
- About Info about CalcKey
- Help Help on using CalcKey
- Hide Hide CalcKey (same as pressing [ESC] or 'q')
- Unload Unload CalcKey from memory (same as pressing 'u')
