  1. ENTROPY
  2.  
  3. In limpid, faultless surfaces
  4. foul, squalid dogs reflect.
  5. Their muzzles, stained with garbage,
  6. nudge the legs of the elect.
  7. Shining mirrors for the lovely,
  8. for the images of the just,
  9. are defiled by the reflections
  10. of these shaggy bags of dust;
  11. and the perfect, who should dwell here,
  12. are leaving in twos and threes,
  13. repelled by their arrival,
  14. by their scrapping and their fleas.
  15.  
  16. But as the blessed wander
  17. through the dingy outer world
  18. they grow shabby and despairing,
  19. and corrupt, and slightly soiled;
  20. while the curs who leave the darkness
  21. for the peace and light within
  22. become alert and shiny-snouted
  23. and frolic without sin.
