  3. They landed at last,
  4. touching down in Central Park
  5. in their gorgeously decorated ships
  6. like maple leaves falling
  7. precisely; and were received
  8. with respect and ticker-tape.
  9. Not repulsive after all,
  10. but tall and long-tailed, furry,
  11. they walked with slinky grace
  12. like black teenagers.
  13. Their gift is all the wisdom
  14. of the civilised Galaxy
  15. "The cure for cancer?
  16. This is simple. At the first full moon
  17. after the Winter Solstice,
  18. decapitate a black cockerel;
  19. drain the blood into a silver cup . . . "
