1. Introduction
Replex is a program that enables you to run any program in place of
any other. It was meant to be of use with PD-disks (like Fish's) that
use a reader on disk (":c/MuchMore") while the same reader (or better)
could be found on harddisk. Instead of changing all the default tools
or getting irritated ( I never change anything on PD-disks) you and I
now run "Replex".
Now every time AmigaDOS tries to run ":C/MuchMore" the computer comes
up with "C:MuchMore". It works fine and fast. Yes, I like it :-).
You can define 8 different program's to be replaced. The interface is
easy to use; changes can be saved; overhead is low; what can I say?
Use it!
It's even more interesting for PD from CD-ROM; some old disks use bugy
or 2.0-incompatible readers...
2. Distribution
Replex is freeware; it may be distributed and used freely. Replex may
not be sold, but inclusion in a PD-library is permitted as long as
only a SMALL fee is charged to cover the costs of copying and
distribution. The Fred Fish Library is the perfect example.
Program and documentation _must_ be distributed together.
3. Startup
Replex can be started by icon or from Shell when necessary, or can be
placed in your startup-sequence or WBStartup. When placed in a startup
you will want to suppress the window. That can be accomplished by
adding "HIDE" as an argument or by adding "HIDE=ON" as a Tool-Type.
To activate the window later, just start Replex again; it will send a
message to the running Replex-task and quit.
After starting, Replex will try to load the file "S:Replex.prefs".
That file contains the program names and the window position. Those
settings can be changed and saved any time.
4. Gadgets
There are sixteen string-gadgets to hold eight prognames and their
replacements. The cursor will jump from gadget to gadget after
pressing the return-key (Tab not supported) and backwards if the
SHIFT-key was pressed. Do not use more space characters then needed,
the names must match!
At the bottom you will find four gadgets:
> Quit
The only way to release the patch. If "LoadSeg" was patched again
after installing Replex you will meet a requester saying so. Replex
will not leave until the patch can be restored.
> Reload
If you've changed the prognames for just a little while and want to
restore the old names later, Reload will re-load (:-) "S:Replex.prefs"
and will also move the window to it's previous position.
> Save
Saves the prognames and window position to "S:Replex.prefs".
> Hide
Closes the window, but the patch is still there. The window can be
re-opened by starting Replex again.
5. Bugs
No known bugs; if you find one (or more?): LET ME KNOW !
Replex should work with Workbench 1.3 (apart from silly colors and
requesters), Wbench 2.0 , 3.0 and others... ALL Amiga's that is.
Replex was tested on: A500 WB1.3, A2000 WB2.0, A4000 WB3.0.
