Welcome to Amiga Voice Recognition and AniMan.
This is version 5.0 of AniMan which allows you to converse with an
animated talking head through your audio digitizer in order to execute
CLI commands, ARexx commands, or ARexx scripts by voice command. AniMan is
designed to work with the Perfect Sound 3, Audio Master (Audio Magic), and
Generic audio digitizers. AniMan is completely multitasking and will run
in the background, continuously listening for your voice command. With
AniMan you can launch multiple applications or control any program with an
ARexx capability by conversation with an animated talking head. This new
version of AniMan runs in full color on the 3.0 Workbench screen within a
miniature window. A Workbench screen with a minimum of 64 colors is
required for the best animation results. In keeping with the many new
display options provided by AGA, AniMan will now automatically configure to
a wide range of display modes and monitors.
Copy voice.library (version 6.6) to libs: before running AniMan. If you
have been using an earlier version of voice.library, be sure that it has
been flushed from memory either by rebooting your Amiga or by typing
"avail flush" in the CLI. Note that this new version of voice.library is
twice as fast as earlier versions. You can also improve the performance of
VCLI ver 5.2 on Disk #807 with voice.library ver 6.6.
Also, AniMan 5.0 uses the WB 2.04 versions of the translator.library and
narrator.device. Unaccountably, Commodore did not include these important
resources in the 3.0 system release. You can correct this shortcoming if
you own an Amiga 2.04 Workbench disk. Copy the devs:narrator.device from
the 2.04 Workbench disk WHICH YOU OWN to your devs: directory, and copy the
libs:translator.library from the 2.04 Workbench disk to your libs: directory.
If you don't own a 2.04 Workbench disk, you should purchase one from an
Amiga dealer.
Note for GVP DSS 8 users. You can use DSS 8 with AniMan in the Generic
digitizer mode. However, since GVP does not release technical information
regarding the DSS 8, I have not been able to provide software gain
adjustment. The process to use is as follows. First connect your DSS 8
digitizer and run the "DSS" program supplied by GVP with your digitizer.
Open the Sampler Control Panel and select Input parameters to be used
(I suggest left channel, sampler gain 8, and microphone input with filter).
Then select "Monitor" to activate the DSS 8 digitizer with the input
parameters you have selected. Use the "Monitor" mode to determine that an
audio signal is actually being received from the digitizer.
Without disturbing the digitizer, exit the "DSS" program and run AniMan.
As long as you do not choose another digitizer, or load a vocabulary file
that was recorded using another digitizer, AniMan will operate correctly
with the DSS 8 digitizer. Note that if you have used another digitizer
previously, you may have to delete "CommandFile.name" file before running
AniMan, since the presence of this file causes AniMan to automatically load
the last vocabulary file you have recorded. I've verified this procedure
to work on DSS version 1.15. I can't vouch for later versions of DSS.
I will be most happy to assist anyone attempting to use voice.library in
their own programs. I can be reached on-line as:
