MISC INFO:
This is a picture of a Medieval style castle built on two small
islands, set against a backdrop of mountains belonging to a much larger
island. The castle in the picture isn't modeled after a real one; I
just made it up.
Each picture in this set is in a separate archive containing a README
file, a JPEG file in 1280x1024x24, and a HAM8 file in 896x628. The
pictures are:
JPEG.Medieval_Castle_1: A view showing the entire front face of the
HAM8.Medieval_Castle_1: castle on a somewhat cloudy and rainy day.
Mountains are visible in the background along
with a lava flow descending into the ocean.
JPEG.Medieval_Castle_2: A closer view from a different angle.
HAM8.Medieval_Castle_2:
(All the archives contain JPEG.* and HAM8.* files. Sorry for the
"backward" filenames; I've gone to all prefix file extensions instead
of postfixes. That way similar image types sort together in directory
listings. Also it is visually tidier since the prefixes all line up
nicely.)
Hardware & Software used to create this image:
Amiga 4000/040 (of course)
Imagine 2.0 (rendering engine)
Essence I and II (indispensably cool algorithmic textures packages)
VistaPro 3.0 (landscape generation)
Deluxe Paint 4.5 (brushmaps for flags, etc.)
ImageFX (rain effects & other post processing)
Notes:
First, viewing these images in anything less than 800x600x8-bit is a
waste of time - too much detail is lost at lower resolutions to make
it worthwhile. I've supplied them in two resolutions (896x628 &
1280x1024), both of which look pretty good. Don't even *think*
about 320x400xanything or 640x400x4-bit.
In the image, Essence textures were used for the water, the brick
and stone textures on the castle walls, and the lava & steam in the
background. VistaPro was used to create the landscape (which is
actually quite a bit larger than is visible in the picture). The
landscape was imported into Imagine & cleaned up with some Essence
bump textures to make it look reasonable without using too many
polygons.
As always, please don't modify the image in ways other than
resolution conversion, claim credit for it, or use it for commercial
purposes without permission of the author. Thanks.

List of other Imagine stuff I've done (all are in fairly high resolutions,
usually 1280x1024 and 896x628, and aren't really viewable in any
reasonable manner without at least 640x480x8-bit):
TallShipsPassage - Sailing ship passing between lighthouses and
islands. Fair. My first attempt at using
Imagine for a real picture.
Twisted_City - City full of twisted skyscrapers. Kind of
cool, IMHO.
MightyMo 1-6 - Images of the USS Missouri. Fairly detailed
model. I suppose there are possibilities for
"MightyMo vs. the sailing ship from
TallShipsPassage :-)"
Medieval_Castle 1-2 - Images of a medieval style castle sitting on
two tiny islands just offshore from a much
larger island.
