  5. This file summarizes the different CD-ROM distributions that are
  6. either currently available or currently planned.

  9. FreshFish

  12. Goals
  13.  
  14.     o    Provide users with the very latest freely redistributable
  15.     material in a timely manner, I.E. within 1-2 months of it's
  16.     release or submission to me.        
  17.  
  18.     o    Provide users with a set of useful utilities that is
  19.     updated on each CD-ROM so that users do not have to 
  20.     continually try to keep up to date with the latest versions
  21.     of utilities, libraries, and other material that they use
  22.     frequently.

  24.     o    Provide material that is ready to run directly off the
  25.     CD-ROM rather than having to unpack archives or otherwise
  26.     consume precious hard drive space.
  27.  
  28.     o    Provide the newly released material in a BBS-ready form
  29.     so that BBS owners can make it available to their users
  30.     as soon as possible.

  34.     o    Published approximately every 1-2 months.

  38.     o    A single CD-ROM with approximately 200Mb+ allocated to
  39.     newly released material, 200Mb+ allocated to useful
  40.     utilities that are updated on each release, and the
  41.     remainder of 200Mb or less, filled on a space available
  42.     basis with previously published material.

  46.     o    Those users that want the very latest material as soon
  47.     as possible, and want the material in a convenient to
  48.     use form.

  56.     o    Provide users with a convenient source of freely
  57.     distributable material that has been released in
  58.     the last 6 to 8 months.

  60.     o    Provide the material only in archived form, so as to
  61.     make maximal use of the available space.  I.E. squeeze
  62.     as much material on the CD-ROM as possible.

  64. Frequency of Publication

  66.     o    Published approximately every 6 to 8 months, I.E.
  67.     after every 3rd or 4th FreshFish CD-ROM.

  69. Structure

  71.     o    A single CD-ROM containing only archives.

  73. Target Market
  74.  
  75.     o    Users that are interested in freely redistributable
  76.     software, but are not too concerned about having it in
  77.     a convenient form.  They are willing to wait up to 6-8
  78.     months for new material and are also willing to unpack
  79.     it from the CD-ROM and go through whatever setup is
  80.     necessary to use it.

  88.     o    Provide users with a longterm archive of the entire
  89.     1000 floppy collection.
  90.  
  91.     o    Provide all 1000 floppies in both archived and unarchived
  92.     form.

  94.     o    Provide utilities and a database to make it easy to
  95.     find specific material or types of material.
  96.  
  97.     o    Provide utilities to recreate specific floppy disks from
  98.     the CD-ROM archive.

  100. Frequency of Publication

  102.     o    Published only one time, upon completion of the floppy
  103.     library to disk 1000.

  105. Structure

  107.     o    A 2 CD-ROM set, with the first volume containing floppy
  108.     disks 1-1000 in archived form plus approximately 1-250 in
  109.     unarchived form, and the second volume containing the
  110.     remaining disks (251-1000) in unarchived form.

  112. Target Market

  114.     o    Anyone that would like a longterm archive of my complete
  115.     1000 floppy disk library.

  119. Some things to note are that only the FreshFish CD-ROM will contain all the
  120. GNU utilities and other useful utilities already set up and ready to run
  121. directly off the CD-ROM, thus saving hundreds of megabytes of hard disk
  122. space.

  124. Even though there is significant overlap in coverage of material between the
  125. FreshFish and FrozenFish CD-ROM's, they present the material in vastly
  126. different ways and are targetted at different types of users.
  127.  
  128. The GoldFish CD-ROM is a "one-time CD-ROM" that has no signficant connection
  129. to the FreshFish or FrozenFish CD-ROM's.  After it's release, future
  130. FreshFish and FrozenFish CD-ROM's will no longer contain the contents of
  131. "fish disks" 1-1000 organized on a per disk basis.
