  7. THIS VIDEO DEVICE DRIVER AND THE MAINTENANCE FIXES ARE DESIGNED TO BE USED
  8. WITH THE OS/2 2.1 PRODUCT.  YOU MUST BE A CURRENT LICENSEE OF OS/2 2.1 IN
  9. ORDER TO USE THIS PRODUCT.  THIS CODE IS GOVERNED BY THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
  10. OF THE OS/2 PROGRAM LICENSE AGREEMENT.

  12. This package contains an OS/2 2.1 video accelerator driver supporting the
  13. miro cards CRYSTAL 10SD and CRYSTAL 20SD.
  14.  
  15. This package also contains:
  16.  
  17. o This README with instructions for installing the driver from a diskette or
  18.   using the Configuration Installation Distribution (CID) environment.
  19. o Maintenance updates to OS/2 2.1 required for the successful operation  of
  20.   the driver.

  23. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  24. -------------------------
  25.  
  26.     NOTES:
  27.  
  28.      1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order to
  29.          install this driver.
  30.  
  31.      2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during installation.  If you
  32.          elected not to install the OS/2 System Utility Programs or you
  33.          have deleted the ATTRIB, command you must use Selective Install to
  34.          restore the ATTRIB command before continuing.
  35.  
  36.      3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return to VGA resolution
  37.          using the new SETVGA procedure found at the end of this README
  38.          before you install this driver.
  39.  
  40.      4.  Label the miro OS/2 disk 1/2 as follows: miro_OS2_1
  41.          Label the miro OS/2 disk 2/2 as follows: S3 DRVS
  42.  
  43.  
  44. INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  45. --------------------------
  46.  
  47. This video accelerator driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1.
  48. Do not install it on previous versions of OS/2.
  49.  
  50. To install this miro video accelerator driver from diskette:
  51.  
  52.     1.    Place this diskette into drive A (or any other diskette drive).
  53.  
  54.     2.    Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  55.  
  56.     3.    At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following command:
  57.  
  58.         A:S3INST A: C:
  59.  
  60.         where:  A: is the diskette drive
  61.                 C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed
  62.  
  63.         This command will copy all necessary files to the OS/2 drive.
  64.  
  65.     4.    Remove the diskette from the diskette drive, perform a shutdown, and
  66.         then restart the system.
  67.  
  68.     5.    Open the "OS/2 System" folder.
  69.  
  70.     6.    Open the "System Setup" folder.
  71.  
  72.     7.    Open the "Display Driver Install" (DSPINSTL) object.
  73.         When the Display Driver Install window appears, "S3" should be the
  74.         default choice.  Select "OK".
  75.  
  76.     8.  When the source directory pop-up window appears, insert the S3
  77.         OS/2 display driver diskette and select Install.
  78.  
  79.         DSPINSTL determines the hardware configuration by creating the
  80.         SVGADATA.PMI file on the drive where the OS2 directory is located.
  81.         If the SVGADATA.PMI file has not been created, the adapter will not
  82.         be supported.
  83.  
  84.     9.  When the installation is complete, do the following:
  85.         a.  Open "OS/2 System".
  86.         b.  Open "System Setup".
  87.         c.  Open the "System" object.  The Screen page of the Settings
  88.             notebook lists all the supported resolutions for your
  89.             configuration.
  90.         d.  Select a resolution; then, close the notebook.
  91.  
  92.     10. Open a DOS box full screen session and start
  93.          <Bootdrive>:\os2\wininst\install <Bootdrive>:
  94.  
  95.     11. Follow the Win/OS2 install procedure.
  96.  
  97.     12. Close the Win/OS2 session.
  98.  
  99.     13. Perform a shutdown; then, restart the system.
  100.  
  101. Note that during the installation of this driver a DISPLAY.LOG file is
  102. created in the OS2\INSTALL directory.  This file identifies the OS/2 2.1
  103. system files that were updated and indicates whether the installation
  104. was successful.

  107. COMPATIBILITY
  108. -------------
  109.  
  110. This video accelerator driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1.
  111. Do not install it on previous versions of OS/2.

  114. NEW SETVGA PROCEDURE
  115. --------------------
  116.  
  117. Use the following procedure instead of the SETVGA command to return to
  118. VGA mode.
  119.  
  120.     NOTE:  If your display is out of sync, start OS/2 using the OS/2
  121.            Installation Diskette, insert Diskette 1 when prompted, then
  122.            press Esc to access a command prompt.  Follow the instructions
  123.            below to reset your display mode.

  125. o  If you installed OS/2 from diskettes:
  126.  
  127.      1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL directory.    If it is, go
  128.          to step 2.  If it is not, insert Installation Diskette 8 and unpack
  129.          RSPDSPI.EXE with the following command:
  130.  
  131.          C:\OS2\UNPACK A:\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  132.  
  133.          where:  A: is the drive containing Installation Diskette 8
  134.                  C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed
  135.  
  136.      2.  Type C:; then press Enter
  137.      3.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL; then press Enter
  138.      4.  Type RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:A:\ /T:C:; then press Enter
  139.  
  140.          /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed
  141.          /S:A: where A: is the diskette drive you use to install OS/2
  142.  
  143. o  If you installed OS/2 from CD-ROM or a LAN:
  144.  
  145.      1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL directory.    If it is, go
  146.          to step 2.  If it is not, unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following
  147.          command:
  148.  
  149.          C:\OS2\UNPACK E:\DISK_8\INSTAID C: /N:RSPDSPI.EXE
  150.  
  151.          where:  C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed
  152.                  E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
  153.  
  154.      2.  Type C:; then press Enter
  155.      3.  Type CD C:\OS2\INSTALL; then press Enter
  156.      4.  Type RSPDSPI /PK:VGA /SK:NONE /S:E:\OS2SE21\ /T:C:; then press Enter

  158.          /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 2.1 is installed
  159.          /S:E: where E: is the CD-ROM or LAN drive
