  2. PMMPEG.EXE Release 2.1 - An OS/2 Presentation Manager MPEG movie player.
  3.  
  4. This program will play MPEG  (Motion Picture Experts Group) digital  movies
  5. in a window on your OS/2 desktop.  It can handle I-Frame style movies  that
  6. are used by the DOS Xing MPEG player, plus IBP-Frame style movies that  the
  7. Xing can't  currently handle.   It cannot  play movies  that have  embedded
  8. sounds, such as those generated by the ReelMagic card.

  10. I received a great  deal of  quality feedback  from dozens  of people  that
  11. tried previous releases of  PMMPEG.  Here are of  some of the new  features
  12. that have been implemented based  on your suggestions.  Please continue  to
  13. send suggestions and bug  reports, it will help  to make PMMPEG better  for
  14. everyone.
  15.  
  16. New Features in PMMPEG 2.1:
  17.  
  18. *  Optimized  playback  speed  with  I/B/P  movies.   They  play  at   much
  19. higherframe rates and as a side effect the bug with stepping frame by frame
  20. in I/B/P movies has been corrected.
  21.  
  22. * Added Slideshow feature.  This allows  you to select multiple files  with
  23. the File Dialog, drag/drop multiple files from somewhere on the desktop  or
  24. specify multiple files on the  command line.   PMMPEG will  then play  each
  25. movie, one after the other,  and optionally loop back  to the front of  the
  26. list and play again if the Loop mode is set.

  28. * Added Toolbar buttons  that allow you  to save the  current frame to  the
  29. Clipboard or to an OS/2 Bitmap file
  30.  
  31. * The Statistics  dialog has  been replaced  by a  Status bar  that can  be
  32. optionally displayed at the bottom of  the frame.  This shows the  relevant
  33. statistics for the movie: resolution, frame count (for I/B/P and  displayed
  34. frames) and frame rate in frames/second.
  35.  
  36. * If a decoding problem occurs on  a particular frame, the status bar  will
  37. optionally be displayed with a red background for that frame.
  38.  
  39. * A pop up message will  be displayed if the current display  configuration
  40. is not set up for at least 256 colors.  This is required for proper display
  41. of the images.

  43. * Added WS_ANIMATE bit to respect system window animation option.
  44.  
  45. * Updated MPEG movie site information.
  46.  
  47. * Added MPEG-2 decoder discussion to help file.

  49. * Added DIVE discussion/problems to help file.

  51. * Tested increasing color dithering space up from 128 colors but there  was
  52. not much visual difference and performance suffered.

  54. * Optimization: Check and  don't change  a button  if it's  already in  the
  55. required state.

  57. * Optimization: Quickly skip initial frames until a non-all-black frame  is
  58. found.  This will always display the first valid frame of any movie.

  60. * Optimization: Better frame/second calculation, still mildly optimistic.

  62. * Bug fix: Leaves movie positioned at last frame when it ends.

  64. * Bug  fix:  Only  one  error  message  on  improper  end  sequence,  stops
  65. gracefully.

  92. PMMPEG is a Shareware program.  The cost is $15 and has been bargain priced
  93. to recoup some of  the development,  postage and  network costs  associated
  94. with distributing it.

  96. PMMPEG  can  be   ftp'd  from   ftp.cdrom.com.   It's   currently  in   the
  97. /pub/os2/incoming directory as pmmpeg21.zip, but  will be moved shortly  to
  98. /pub/os2/2_x/mmedia.
