  3.  Welcome to mIRC v4.1, an Internet Relay Chat Client.
  4.  
  5.  For those of you new to the internet, IRC stands for Internet
  6.  Relay Chat. The IRC network is a virtual meeting place where
  7.  people from all over the world can meet and talk.
  8.  
  9.  mIRC attempts to provide a user-friendly interface for use
  10.  with the IRC network.
  11.  
  12.  It has the following features:

  14.   Coloured text to ease reading.
  15.   Uncluttered display.
  16.   Comprehensive Alias definitions.
  17.   Configurable multi-level popup menus.
  18.   DCC Send/Get/Chat/Resume.
  19.   Finger client.
  20.   Remote CTCP tool.
  21.   Simple Event handler.
  22.   Some basic fonts.
  23.   Ident server.
  24.   Simple File-server.
  25.   URL Catcher.
  26.   Command history.
  27.   Function Key definitions.
  28.   Toolbar with tooltips.
  29.   Finger server.
  30.   A handful of options.
  31.   Many other useful bits and pieces.

  33.  The various parts of this client have been designed with the aim of
  34.  simplifying and speeding an IRC session.

  37.  To be able to use mIRC, you need several things:
  38.  
  39.  1. Access to the internet.
  40.  2. Software for your machine that connects you to the internet.
  41.     mIRC requires a WINSOCK.DLL, of which several versions are
  42.     available. You will need this before you can use mIRC.

  44.  
  45.  How to Install mIRC:
  46.  
  47.  This package should contain the following files:
  48.  
  49.  mIRC.exe               16-bit version
  50.  mIRC32.exe             32-bit version
  51.  mIRC.hlp               the helpfile
  52.  readme.txt             this file
  53.  versions.txt           version history
  54.  
  55.  mIRC.ini               the main ini file
  56.  aliases.ini            the aliases ini file
  57.  popups.ini             the popups ini file
  58.  remote.ini             the remote ini file
  59.  
  60.  Place all of these files together in a directory.
  61.  
  62.  To use the 32-bit version you must be running a 32-bit operating
  63.  system and a 32-bit winsock.
  64.  
  65.  Once you have installed mIRC, you can run it, fill in the required
  66.  setup information, and connect to the IRC server.
