Anyone could show up on a Thursday evening and play any instrument in any way they wanted. Both professional musicians and novices played regularly. One described a typical session during which Max suggested that they play a blues in F. The musicians who knew how to play the blues in the key of F launched off into the tune. And everyone else who didn’t know how to play anything but Perfect Music played along the way they felt it. Including the kid who had brought along his harmonica tuned to the key of G, and the person who was beating on some metal space sculptures, and someone else who had just picked up a saxophone for the first time and was honking away on it.
