The following information was left out of the user's manual:
1) The following settings are the defaults at the game startup (OPTIONS MENU):
Message Speed - 0
3-Minute Message - 0
Overtime Stamina - Don't Refresh
Shot Clock - 24 Seconds
Court - Home Court Advantage
The message speed and the final three minute message speed will always be
the until you modify the three minute message speed. Once you change this,
you will have to set three minute speed if you want both speeds to be the same.
2) The AUTOPLAY function has been modified so that you may update and export
a completed game.
3) For Upgrade Owners: Do not use your old CONFIG.BLB file when upgrading
the program. Copy or install the CONFIG.BLB from the BLB 3.02 distribution
disk. Your program will not work with your old CONFIG.SYS but remember, you
data files will. You may continue a season in progress with BLB 3.02.
4) Explaining SETUP paths: For anyone who has a difficult time understanding
what the directory paths are for, he is a explaination: The SETUP paths
are used for any other directories you want to have seasn disks. You can
switch to another data directory rather than leaving the ORG/RPTs module.
NOTE: YOU CAN NOT PLAY GAMES WITH TEAMS LOCATED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTORIES.
GAMES CAN ONLY BE PLAYED RESIDING IN THE SAME DIRECTORY. This should not
be confused with LEAGUES. BLB V3 permits teams from different leagues to
play each other. For owners who are not familiar with the term directory.
A directory area consists of files on a disk. The main directory on a disk
is called the ROOT directory. a directory insided the ROOT directory is a
sub-directory. Any directory inside another directory is called a sub-
directory. For anybody out there who is not all that familiar with DOS,
I strongly recommend buying a DOS manual an becoming familiar with the
operating system. Not only will you understand the BLB manual more, but
with any program which doesn't boot automatically, you will be able to
to find your way around easier.
5) If you are having any problem with running the programs the first time,
you probably don't have it set up properly. Please read the install
instructions carefully and make sure ALL files are in their proper places.
*** BLB 3.02 CHANGES ***
This version will now let you use a: drive as a data drive. If you
set the program up for b: and you get an error, try setting the drive to a:.
This should solve your problem. Please note, some single 3.5 drives don't
recognize the drive as a: and b:. You may now have data drives from a: - z:.
Hard Disk Install Program
-------------------------
A hard disk install program has been included to make it easier to place
BLB 3.02 on your c: hard drive. To install the program using either the 3.5
or 5.25 floppy disk version, the install program must be ran from the a: drive.
The program will create two directories, 'c:\blb3' for the programs and
'c:\blb\blbdata1\' for a season disk. If you install the program using the
3.5 version, the season data must be located in a subdirectory called
'\datadisk' on the programs disk. If your using a UPGRADE version, you will
need to copy one of your season disk into a directory you create called
'\datadisk'.
Running BLB 3.02 for the first time when install has not been used
------------------------------------------------------------------
Placing the game on the HD using the unitialized distribution disk:
When the game is placed on the hard disk without using hard disk
installation program (an INIT.BLB has not been initialized), the BLB program
will ask you questions about which drive the disks will be ran off of and
the drive type. Once you answer these questions, the program will initialize
the BLB and BLBGAME programs. If you wish to run this segment of the BLB
program again, you need to copy the INIT.NEW to INIT.BLB. This can be done
by typing COPY INIT.NEW INIT.BLB.
Placing the game on the HD with an already initialized INIT.BLB:
The program has package to run on the data disk on a: drive. If you copy
the program to your hard disk without using install, you will be prompted to
place ORG/RPTs and the data disk in drive a:. You do not need to place the
ORG/RPTs disk in drive a: but you do need to place the data disk (make sure
the AUTO.NMS, AUTO.SKD and RECORDS.BLB are on the data disk). Once you
load BLB, go into ORGANIZE-SETUP menu and change PROGRAM DRIVE to
OTHER THAN A:. IF you plan on using a: as your program and b: or greater
as your data drive, you still need to set PROGRAM DRIVE to OTHER THAN A:.
After doing this, you will no longer be prompted to switch disks. Owners of
high density drives (3.5" or 5.25" 1.2 MEG floppies) can use drive a: as
a data drive and set PROGRAM DRIVE to OTHER THAN A: if your data files are
on the same disk as the program disks. This PROGRAM DRIVE was added for
users who have to switch floppies when running games.
Deleting sub-directories off the disk
-------------------------------------
Before you delete a data directory off your disk, get into SETUP and
RENAME the PATH to either a:, b:, c:, etc. If the directory is ACTIVATED,
activate another path. You can now delete the data files and remove the sub-
directory. This is the recommended why to delete sub-directories. NOTE: When
you are in the SETUP menu and you have no valid paths and do sub-directories on
the disk, you can either: insert a season disk in a: and RENAME a drive 'a:' or
CTRL-BRK out of the program and setup your data directories.
INIT.BLB file
-------------
When running BLB for the first time, a initialize screen will appear. This
screen will only appear once. If you want to run this screen again, using the
DOS command COPY, type COPY INIT.NEW INIT.BLB (you must be in the directory where
these files exist).
Message Delay greater than 1 and OTStamina Refresh ON
-----------------------------------------------------
The Overtime Refresh and Message Delay has been corrected for owners who
owned BLB 3.0, 3.01 and 3.01A.
NOTES for 3.5" purchasers
-------------------------
The program SETPATH will set you CONFIG.BLB file to the drive you will
be running the game and data disk, if you chose to run the program as it is
packed on the distribution disk. Run this if you chose to do this and it should
be ran before you use the program for the first time.
AND ALWAYS.....make backups of all your distribution disks before you use them.
