Supplemental information for
Crosstalk Mk.4 version 2.0
This file contains special notes for both new and experienced users of
Crosstalk Mk.4, including descriptions of some new features and manual
clarifications. We suggest that you take a moment to read this file. If
you wish to review the information again later, you can press Alt-M from
the Dialing Directory and select BROWSER. Select READ.ME from the BROWSER
menu.
To read this information now, use [PgUp] and [PgDn] or the Up and Down
Arrow keys to scroll through the text, and press [Esc] when you're done.
Files on the distribution diskettes
Appendix E of the User's Guide lists files that are shipped on the
distribution diskettes. Some of these files are not necessary in this
version of Crosstalk. The files omitted are:
ADIR.XTC (XDIR.XTC assumes this function, when in answer mode)
CONFIG2.XTC (now part of CONFIG.XTC)
MODEMSET.XTC (no longer required)
STD.XTK (created automatically by the Crosstalk XVI interface)
XVI.XTK (no longer required)
The functional equivalents for Crosstalk XVI's SETUP.XTK and SETUP.XTS are
called CONFIG.XTK and CONFIG.XTS for the Crosstalk XVI look-alike interface.
ALEC.XTD, the device module that serves as an interface for DCA's SmartAlec
5250 emulator board, is not on the disk, either. Previous versions of this
file will not work with Crosstalk Mk.4 v2.0; if you want to use SmartAlec
with Crosstalk, you can get the file from our tech support department
(404-442-3210), download it from our BBS (404-740-8428), or download it
from the XTALK forum on CompuServe (GO XTALK).
Background Mode Limitations
Crosstalk cannot use its background mode if network software is loaded
or under DOS 2.x or 4.x. If you hear a beep when you press the background
hotkey (default is Alt-Esc), Crosstalk thinks you have network software
loaded or are running under DOS 2.x or 4.x. You must unload the network
software before running Crosstalk Mk.4 in background mode.
Errata in Documentation
CASL Reference, Appendix C - The System Windows incorrectly lists windows
#20 and #35. Window #20 is actually the Status Screen, and #35 is
actually the Dialing Directory.
User's Guide, p. 7-2 - The wrong picture is displayed for the editor screen.
The screen pictured is from the LEARN script, not the editor.
Section 7 of the User's Guide omitted that the maximum wordwrap (Ewrap)
setting for the editor is 200 columns.
NASI/NCSI Support
The NASI device module was tested with Novell's NASI (v1.14, NACS v2.06) and
Network Products Corporation's NCSI (v1.15, ACS2 v2.07). Other versions may
be incompatible.
New error messages
Printer not ready. You attempted to use the LPRINT command and the
printer is not ready. You may also check the printer's
readiness from a CASL script with the command
LPRINT "";
which will return this error if the printer is not ready.
Error 15-10: Run command not available while in background mode.
You cannot use the RUN command when Crosstalk is used in
background mode.
