  202. NEW COMMAND-LINE OPTIONS IN GOSCRIPT VERSION 2.x
  203. ------------------------------------------------

  205. The following command-line options are available in GoScript Version 2.2
  206.   /Dfilespec  : Redirect printer data to a disk file
  207.   /FRfilespec : Restore a bitmap file saved by /FS option
  208.   /FSfilespec : Save page bitmap to a disk file
  209.   /H          : Select high resolution mode of printer driver
  210.   /L          : Select low resolution mode of printer driver
  211.   /Nn         : Print n copies of each page (1..99)
  212.   /Pdriver    : Select alternate printer driver
  213.   /R          : Restore font cache
  214.   /S          : Save font cache
  215.   /Vfilespec  : Select alternate initial virtual memory file

  220. IMPORTANT NOTES ON GOSCRIPT PLUS INSTALLATION:
  221. ---------------------------------------------
  222.  
  223. After you have completed the installation of GoScript, print the demo
  224. files to make sure everything works before you attempt to print
  225. a PostScript file generated by your application program.
  226.  
  227. The recommended setting for VMSize for most applications is 130 KB.
  228. If you encounter "Out of memory error" or "Exceeds Interpreter Limits"
  229. when you run the demo programs after installation, you may try to reduce
  230. the VMSize allocated for PostScript virtual memory.  VMSize as indicated
  231. in the GSCONFIG.CFG file specifies the amount of PostScript virtual memory
  232. (the memory area that GoScript stores PostScript names and dictionaries).
  233. The PostScript virtual memory and GoScript temporary storage (heap memory)
  234. are allocated from the same memory pool in DOS conventional memory
  235. (the lower 640 KB of the PC).  Therefore, if the VMSize is set too high,
  236. there will not be enough memory left for GoScript working memory storage
  237. during processing.
  238.  
  239. The percentage counter that appears when GoScript is processing a print
  240. file is not updated when GoScript is processing bitmap or scanned images.
  241. Therefore, if you have included bitmap or scanned images in your print
  242. file, the percentage counter may not advance for long period of time.
  243.  
  244. Unsupported PostScript operator: setscreen
  245. --------------------------------
  246. This release of GoScript does not support the setscreen operator of the
  247. PostScript language.  The setscreen operator is used to customize the
  248. halftone cell shape, frequency and angle of halftone cell alignment.
  249. Some application programs, especially those in Microsoft Windows
  250. environment, use the setscreen operator for pattern filling or crosshatch
  251. filling.  If you select pattern or crosshatch fill that is generated by
  252. the PostScript setscreen operator, GoScript will print the pattern as
  253. solid black fill.

  257. For Microsoft Word Users:
  258. -------------------------
  259. If you use GoScript to print Microsoft Word 4.0 output, you must
  260. set the VMSize field in GSCONFIG.CFG file to 150 or higher.
  261.  
  262. For Software Publishing Corp. First Publisher Users:
  263. ---------------------------------------------------
  264. If you use GoScript to print PostScript language output file from
  265. First Publisher Version 2.0, you must modify the PostScript prolog file
  266. or the print file as follows:
  267.    1. Locate the PostScript prolog file LASERDEF.PS
  268.    2. Make a backup copy of this file and keep it in a safe place
  269.       for reference
  270.    3. Use a text editor or the plain ASCII mode of your word processor
  271.       to change line 123 and line 131 to the following:
  272.

  283.    4. Save the modified PostScript prolog file and use First Publisher
  284.       as normal.  The modified prolog file should be automatically
  285.       attached to the beginning of your print file.
  286.  
  287.    5. If you modify the PostScript prolog file, you only have to perform
  288.       the modification once.  If you modify your print file directly,
  289.       then you have to perform the same modification on every print file
  290.       that you generate.
  291.  
  292.  
  293. You can generate a PostScript print file with First Publisher as follows:
  294.  
  295. 1) Use FP's PRINTER program to install the PostScript printer
  296.    (GS users select the Apple LaserWriter; GS Plus users select
  297.    the Apple LaserWriter Plus; then select printer port LPT1)
  298.  
  299. 2) REName MASTER.FNT DOTMATRIX.FNT and REName APLASER.FNT MASTER.FNT
  300.    (see FP manual for further information)
  301.  
  302. 3) REName UARTPAT2.PS UARTPAT2.OLD and create a new file named UARTPAT2.PS
  303.    which needs to be empty and resident in the PUB directory
  304.  
  305. 4) create your document
  306.  
  307. 5) click on FILE, PRINT; enter a filename within the DESTINATION window;
  308.    click on STANDARD (never SMOOTHED); click on OK
  309.  
  310. 6) after FP initializes the LaserWriter and downloads the font macros,
  311.    it will print to the disk filename.
  312.    
  313. 7) Exit FP, change directory to the GoScript directory and print with
  314.    the follwing command:
  315.  
  316.            GS \PUB\filename
  317.  
  318.

  320. UPDATES TO DOT-MATRIX PRINTER DRIVERS:
  321. ------------------------------------
  322.  
  323. The standard resolution for the IBM ProPrinter and Epson FX
  324. printer drivers is now set at 240 horizontal by 216 vertical
  325. dot-per-inch.  These drivers also support the low resolution
  326. of 120 horizontal by 72 vertical with /L option on the command
  327. line or in the DRIVER paramter of the configuration file GSCONFIG.CFG
  328. Refer to Appendix C: Printers of the GoScript User's Guide for
  329. instrucions to activate the low resolution mode.
  330.

  332. FIX FOR DOUBLE PAGE EJECT WITH SINGLE SHEET FEEDER:
  333. ---------------------------------------------------
  334. If you are using GoScript on a printer with single sheet feeder,
  335. or in manual feed mode, and you are experiencing double page eject
  336. for each printed page, you may perform the following step to
  337. disable the FormFeed command that GoScript sends to your printer at
  338. the end of each page.
  339.  
  340. Use a text editor or the plain ASCII mode of your word processor to
  341. add the following parameter in the configuration file GSCONFIG.CFG
  342. as follows:

  348. ADDITIONAL GOSCRIPT PRINTER DRIVERS:
  349. ------------------------------------
  350.  
  351. Three additional printer drivers have been included in this release of
  352. GoScript: PT90.DRV for Siemens PT-90 ink jet printers, INSETPCL.DRV
  353. for use with fax board in conjunction with Hijaack software from
  354. Inset Systems, Inc., LJIID for HP LaserJet IID Duplex printer.
  355.  
  356. Use a text editor or the plain ASCII mode of your word processor to
  357. enter the name of the driver and any optional driver parameters on
  358. the DRIVER entry in the configuration file GSCONFIG.CFG as follows:
  359.  
  360. DRIVER = PT90.DRV
  361.  
  362.  
  363. 1. Siemens PT-90 Ink Jet Printer
  364. Filename: PT90.DRV
  365. Supports 240 dot per inch printing on Letter, Legal, A4 and B size paper.
  366.  
  367. Supports continuous feed paper.  Supports manual paper feed when selected
  368. during the installation process.  To use manual feed, remove the paper
  369. supply from the printer and insert each sheet as prompted during printing.
  370.  
  371. Supports printing of multiple copies of a page; since each page must be
  372. sent to the printer individually, speed will be limited.
  373.  
  374. The printable area on each page is slightly smaller than that of the
  375. Apple LaserWriter and many PostScript printers due to internal limitations
  376. of the printer.  Alignment of the printed image on the paper is
  377. achieved by mechanical adjustment of the paper feed tractors.

  379.  
  380. 2. Special driver for Inset Systems, Inc.
  381. Filename: INSETPCL.DRV
  382.  
  383. This is a special driver at 196 dot per inch resolution to be
  384. used with Hijaack software from Inset Systems, Inc. for
  385. fax transmission.
  386.  
  387. Please refer to instructions that came with Hijaak for usage.
  388.  
  389.  
  390. 3. LaserJet IID Duplex Printer
  391. Filename: LJIID.DRV
  392.  
  393. Configure the Duplex IID printer to print in duplex mode.
  394. Configure GoScript for the LaserJet IID Duplex printer driver.
  395. Now you can use GoScript to print both sides of the page on the
  396. HP LaserJet IID Duplex printer.  The printer must have at least
  397. 2MB of expansion memory.
  398.

  400. 4. Intel Visual Edge System
  401.  
  402. This release of GoScript supports the Intel Visual Edge printing
  403. system via EMS Graphics Manager.  GoScript requires at least 2 Mbytes
  404. of expanded memory to work with Visual Edge system.
  405.  
  406.     a. Install your Visual Edge hardware and software.
  407.     b. Load the Visual Edge driver VE.COM
  408.     c. Load GRAPHMGR for printer port that you have selected
  409.        to be used with GoScript, for example:
  410.        GRAPHMGR /LPT1
  411.     d. Configure GoScript for the HP LaserJet Series II driver,
  412.        and the LPT port specified via the GRAPHMGR command
  413.  
  414. Then you can use GoScript to print full page at 300 dots per inch
  415. on the HP LaserJet Series II printer, without adding expansion
  416. memory to the LaserJet Series II printer.
