VMOSMAKE.EXE
Vmos/3 version update utility
June 16, 1989
Purpose: To construct a new version of Vmos/3 using an existing version
combined with a difference file containing the changes between
the existing and the specified new version.
Required: 1. The designated existing version
2. The difference file for the designated version
3. The VMOSMAKE.EXE utility
4. A 1 megabyte 386 PC with no drivers or TSRs loaded
Product: The specified new version of Vmos/3
To use: 1. Rename the designated old version.
Example: REN VMOS.EXE VMOS.F
2. Ensure no drivers or TSRs are loaded
2. Type: VMOSMAKE VMOS.F FTOF2.DIF VMOS.EXE
3. Copy the new VMOS.EXE file to your \VMOS directory.
Note: This process is CRITICALLY DEPENDENT on a proper match between the old
version and the difference file. The new version is built from the
binary pieces of the old version. Instructions about what parts of the
old version that are identical to the new version are carried by the
difference file. VMOSMAKE uses these instructions to "carve up" the old
version and adds new information to make the new version.
VMOSMAKE will not process an incorrect match of old version and
difference file, if it were allowed to, the resulting VMOS.EXE would
always be useless.
StarPath can provide difference files to match only a limited number of
older versions of Vmos/3. You may want to use this new version in the
future with VMOSMAKE and a later difference file.
Be sure to make a copy of the new version and save it just as if it were
a new release disk from StarPath. Do not use your actual release disk
to save new versions.
