Philosophy
~~~~~~~~~~
For lack of a better title. Here you get to be bored by me
rambling for several pages about distribution, the history of this
silly little game, etc.
First the history. In the beginning, there were Proving Grounds
chain files, and it was good. But these writers decided that they were
going to give out the game to select BBS's and not others, and this was
not good.
I'm still not sure why I found myself writing Caveman almost a
eight months ago; I never much liked Turbo Pascal and had never written
anything substantial in it. In three weeks time, and with a lot of
luck, it was beta-tested on Brainstorm BBS (213) 640-1643. Jak, the
sysop, was very patient with my WWIV-illiteracy, and helped me over some
rough spots. After a while, people kept playing it, and the chains that
had motivated me to write Caveman faded from the scene.
I guess that's why this has all taken so long (version 2.0, that
is). I just didn't feel any great urge to work on the game. Somehow I
managed to finish it, though, and even put in a few of the more fun (and
easy to code) mods that some users wanted.
A few users have also approached me asking for copies of the
game, and I don't see why they shouldn't get them, as I can't stop
sysops from distributing to them anyway. So long as they have a copy of
WWIV 3.21d, they can play the game.
If you want a copy of the game (here's the plug!), want to play
it somewhere else, or if you just want to call, the Food Fight! BBS at
(714) 856-2769 and read the g-file there entitled "Food Fight!
Distribution".
I still refuse to give out source to anyone, for several
reasons which are elaborated in another g-file on my board (one of them is
that I can't write structured code to save my life, and I don't want you
all to laugh at me).
