  21.           Dear  Open  Systems  Environment   Implementors'  Workshop  (OIW)
  22.           Participant:

  24.           Plan  to join  us for  the September  12-16, 1994 Workshop.   The
  25.           cutoff date for advance registration is August 19.
  26.  
  27.           New and special  activities planned  for the  September 1994  OIW
  28.           include:
  29.  
  30.                -    A tutorial is  planned for Monday, September 12, from 9
  31.                     a.m.-12:30 p.m.  on "Changes Between 1994  IS/DIS ASN.1
  32.                     and  1990  ASN.1"  by Bancroft  Scott.    This tutorial
  33.                     presents the 1994  ASN.1 notation.  An  introduction to
  34.                     the  encoding rule changes  and the new  ASN.1 encoding
  35.                     rules  (CER, DEF,  PER) will  be given.   The  tutorial
  36.                     identifies the benefits  of the 1994 ASN.1  relative to
  37.                     the  1990 ASN.1 and  addresses migration issues between
  38.                     the two.
  39.  
  40.                     The  cost of  this tutorial  is $65  per person  unless
  41.                     paying a one day or  weekly registration fee to  attend
  42.                     the OIW SIG meetings.  If you need registration  forms,

  44.                     Gray at (301) 975-3664.  They will be faxed to you.

  50.                     the  Internet and TUBA  Profiles and begin  preparing a
  51.                     Study  report   on  convergence   activities  currently
  52.                     underway in OIW SIGs.

  54.                -    The Electronic Commerce Study  Group will be discussing
  55.                     recent activities  in the  Federal Electronic  Commerce
  56.                     Acquisition     Team     their     requirements     for
  57.                     interoperability   and   exchanging   information  with
  58.                     members of the European Commission's EDI project.
  59.  
  60.                -    New   technical   activities  are   starting   work  on
  61.                     Distributed Systems Management  and Distributed Systems
  62.
