Comanche: Maximum Overkill DEMO
GETTING THE DEMO TO RUN
This Demo Requires a 386/486 computer with at least 4 megabytes
of RAM. In general, 500K of conventional memory and 3 Megabytes
of XMS memory. This Game will not work with EMS emulators such as
386MAX, QEMM386 and EMM386. These drivers must be removed from your
CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, or you should re-boot from a normal
boot disk. To make a boot disk, place a blank disk in drive a: and type
FORMAT A:/S. Then type BOOTXMS from the CDEMO sub directory to copy
standard boot files to the floppy.
If you have QEMM386 installed, you may temporally disable it by
pressing ALT during boot up. Try running the game with QEMM disabled.
If the game does not run, you will need to install HIMEM.SYS.
If the game runs out of memory, check your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
for SMARTDRV. Try reducing the size of the SMARTDRV disk cache or
removing it entirely. If you are using DOS 5 with HIMEM.SYS, make sure
the CONFIG.SYS file contains DOS=HIGH.
If the game will not work, verify that your CONFIG.SYS file
contains the line DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS. The HIMEM.SYS file
comes with both DOS 5 and WINDOWS.
WARNING: Always have a working boot disk before modifying the
CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files on your hard drive.
HARDWARE PROBLEMS
Comanche utilizes your computer hardware to the fullest, and may show
hardware problems that standard DOS programs miss.
HORIZONTAL LINES
Comanche requires a 100% VGA hardware compatible video card. The
Headland Video 7 VRAM cards will display horizontal lines during the
game if it is not set to VGA PURE mode. Run the V7VGA program that
came with the VRAM board and select VGA PURE. If you have a Radius
VRAM card (which uses the Headland Chipset), you must run the RADIUS
program and turn on PURE MODE.
IMMEDIATE GAME LOCKUP
Check for HIMEM.SYS in your startup config.sys file. Type MEM and
verify that you have XMS memory and no EMS memory.
DELAYED GAME LOCKUP WITH DIGITAL SOUND
Check for a conflict between the sound card and another card. Run
SOUNDSET and disable digital sounds. Consult the sound card manual for
information on resolving IRQ, I/O, and DMA conflicts with other cards
in your system.
