ocr: CHUQUICAMATA HE COPPER at Chuquicamata, in I the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, is mined underground, as well as from a huge open pit. About 1.5 billion tonnes (1.65 billion tons) of copper ore remains to be: mined there. This makes Chuquicamata one of the largest copper deposits in the world. The deposit is made up of a large porphyry that contains scattered copper. ENORMOUS HOLE The Chuquican mata open pit is almost 4km (24 miles) wide.
