ocr: Promontory The last spike of the transcontinental railroad was nailed at Promontory in 1869. This joined together the eastern and western railroad tracks for the first time. Every May 10th a celebration of this event, called the Golden Spike Ceremony, takes place at Golden Spike National Historic Site.
