  37.     - We encourage people who want to distribute TURBOBACKUP on

  40.       that you are entitled to distribute it. You also have to
  41.       provide two versions of your program to the authors.
  42.       (Little fee for providing your customers with a reliable
  43.        backup-program and having minor trouble replacing disks!)
  44.     - The authors have tested the program very intensive. BUT we
  45.       can not give you any warranty regarding the function of the
  46.       program itself or the reliability of the copies made with
  47.       it (Sorry guy's but no commercial program can provide such
  48.       a warranty nor can we do it with our program.)

  51.       features, that would be too much to handle because we
  52.       already got a 5 pages long list of features we would like

  88.             WHAT IS TURBOBACKUP ?
  89.             ---------------------

  91.     TURBOBACKUP is the fastest, safest way we know to do
  92.     backups of unprotected standard AMIGA-Dos-floppy disks on an
  93.     Amiga with Kick1.2 or higher using two or more disk-drives
  94.     and working with multitasking.

  97.             WHERE DOES IT COME FROM ?
  98.             -------------------------
  99.     The program  was developed by two German Amiga enthusiasts:
  100.  
  101.             Martin Kopp and Steffen Stempel.
  102.  
  103.     We began our development of a save copy-program as a result of
  104.     many problems with corrupt disks generated by the original
  105.     Diskcopy from the Workbench (that works fine but does not do
  106.     any verification on the destination disk) and many other
  107.     programs available at mid 1986. These programs either were
  108.     too slow or not reliable enough. So we developed a program
  109.     called Extended Diskcopy. Steffen did a whole lot of work in
  110.     the research for all this Amiga-stuff you need and Martin
  111.     tested all versions and made suggestions for the user-
  112.     interface and functionality. One version made it by accident
  113.     to the public (named Extended Diskcopy 1.5a) while this was
  114.     not intended by that time, because there were some well-known
  115.     bugs in it. But perhaps you got it and found it useful.
  116.     The main drawback was its speed and a lack of flexibility of
  117.     the user-interface. Then on the Cebit 1987 Martin had some
  118.     great ideas for a reliable, fast new backup program. 
  119.     So we decided to make a new approach and started developing
  120.     TURBOBACKUP. It took one year of coding, testing, recoding 
  121.     etc..  But then it was ready to be released to the public.
  122.     In it's Release 1.0 it is far from perfect regarding the
  123.     userinterface and functionality. But it is thoroughly tested
  124.     and there are no more known bugs in it. We think it's one of
  125.     the best tested programs for the amiga on the market (not
  126.     like for example a really superb paint-program that has seen
  127.     Version 2.0 before even the simplest guru-generating errors                  
  128.     were removed !!! And the new European version would be send 
  129.     back to alpha-testing if tested by me, Martin Kopp!!!).

  132.             WHERE IS THE VIRUS ?
  133.             --------------------

  135.     There is NO Virus in our program!
  136.     We know that some stupid guys over here in Europe have 
  137.     managed to make our bad reputation even worse by bringing
  138.     up virus programs. We do hate these people for what they did
  139.     just like you. (especially those who now know the danger and
  140.     nevertheless develop more and more b*llsh*t.) 
  141.     We know that there is no way to prove that we are loyal amiga
  142.     freaks and did not implemented a virus. It would be of no use
  143.     to publish the source-code because there are very few users
  144.     that could make a decision on virus or no virus. There would be
  145.     the danger of getting 'new' versions from some br*indead people.
  146.     So we came up with the following way:
  147.     We will send the first copies only to people who know one of
  148.     us personally, a trusted friend or a similar path.
  149.     Only people of 'general trust' like Fred Fish (Applause!) etc.
  150.     will get TURBOBACKUP in the beginning. These people can
  151.     test it and decide to distribute it.
  152.     We think this is the best if not only way to gain trust.

  155.             WHY SHOULD YOU USE TURBOBACKUP ?
  156.             --------------------------------

  158.     Because you want reliable fast backups, so you do not have to
  159.     worry about each copy you make.
  160.     And because for example we here in Germany would like to get
  161.     our Fish-disks errorless.

  164.             WHAT DRAWBACKS WILL BE THERE ?
  165.             ------------------------------

  167.     For sure there will be drawbacks like:
  168.     - you may have to use better disks now, because TURBOBACKUP
  169.       won't copy on bad disks (it's may be more expensive, but
  170.       it's worth the money!)
  171.     - you cannot reuse a disk so often like: "Oh, the program
  172.       is lost, then I can copy something else on this disk"
  173.     - there are no coffee-breaks while making copies with verify.

  176.                 What will be next?
  177.                 ------------------

  179.     Maybe, if you like this program as we do, and we hear about
  180.     that, we might decide to get our special disk with future
  181.     improvements out of our desk and get to work on TURBOBACKUP 2.0.

  183.     There would be enhancements like:
  184.  
  185.     - single drive copy
  186.     - multiple copy for up to four drives
  187.     - fast, reliable multiformat
  188.     - directory-display
  189.     - blocking only the drives in use (so multitasking for users
  190.       without ram- or harddisks is more convinient)
  191.     - special extended disk-testing
  192.     - better user-interface
  193.     - sizeable window
  194.     etc. etc. etc. .....
  195.  
  196.     BUT there will not be an option to copy protected disks!
  197.     We are not willing to provide any help to pirates or people
  198.     who think their software is not good enough to be sold for
  199.     the price they offer it and make copy-protection on their
  200.     disks. Sorry to all buyers of such software but there is NO
  201.     way to make security backups of copy-protected software with
  202.     TURBOBACKUP. Think of this when buying the next product and
  203.     you will be much happier!

  206.     HOW CAN I MAKE SUGGESTIONS, SAY THANKS, GET THE RIGHT TO
  207.     --------------------------------------------------------
  208.         DISTRIBUTE IT ON COMMERCIAL DISKS?
  209.         ----------------------------------

  211.     Ok, if there are serious errors, then please write an exact 
  212.     bug-report including system configuration (harddisk, ram, 
  213.     processor etc.), version of system-software, used software
  214.     and a reproducible error-description.
  215.     If you have suggestions to make that you think a boy with 
  216.     good phantasy (like me, who invented all those tricks for
  217.     V1.0 8-) ) could not imagine, then write them down perhaps
  218.     with some example code if necessary.
  219.     If you want to express any thanks, or other comments you 
  220.     think could make us happy, write them down. (Very welcome!)
  221.     If you want to distribute it on your commercial product disk
  222.     you CANNOT use this version!!!! You have to write to us and
  223.     get a version that will tell that you are allowed to do it!
  224.     Anything else is violation of our distribution-rules. (We 
  225.     think you understand this, because we don't want that anyone
  226.     can exploit the hard work we put in this piece of code !!)
