UnknownGirl.doc
===============
UnknownGirl is a new litte musical piece written using the SoundTracker.
There is no source included because it would require the SoundTracker to
play the song source. Instead of providing the source, I decided to provide
a ready-to-load executable module including replay routine, song source and
sample data in one (compacted) module. Hope you like it nevertheless.
1. First Steps
1.1. How do I start UnknownGirl ?
That's as easy as starting any other program. Simply click on
UnknownGirl's Icon (hope you like it) if you're a Workbench User, or
type UnknownGirl as a CLI Command after changing to the appropriate
sub-directory.
1.2. Purpose of UnknownGirl
UnknownGirl has been written to demonstrate the amazing sound
facilities of the Amiga (once again). In addition, I'd like to
get response from anybody who'd like to get some musix for his
programs, but that seems to be the less important aspect.
1.3. Stopping UnknownGirl
If you have decided that you do not want to listen to this song
any more and if you have already tried every key that looked like it
could stop this music except those three keys known first by every
Amiga User and if you still don't know how to stop:
HERE'S A HINT: Try the left button of your first mouse followed by the
left button of your second mouse.
AND FOR THOSE GUYS WHO DON'T HAVE A SECOND MOUSE (like me):
Of course the fire button of your joystick will do
exactly the same job.
For those who wondered why I chose such an difficult way to stop the
song: If the left mouse button would stop the music, you wouldn't be
able to do anything on your workbench while listening to the song.
As the joystick button stops the music, you can read the documentation
or something else while the music still plays, though I'm sorry for the
speedup caused by disk access. I found no way to fix this without
disabling multitasking by a call of Forbid().
2. Copy License
UnknownGirl may be copied freely for private use if it is copied
unchanged and together with its icon and this documentation file.
UnknownGirl may be uploaded to any BBS's (if you think that it's worth
the time required for downloading it) if it is uploaded in an archived
format together with its icon and the doc file. You may use ARC, ZOO or
any other archiving utility that seems suitable.
UnknownGirl must not be included in any other Public-Domain Librarys
than Fred Fish's without the written permission of the author.
It is not allowed to use UnknownGirl in any commercial products without
the written permission of the author.
I do NOT request any shareware fees for UnknownGirl.
But if you liked this song, please tell me !
3.1. Known Bugs
Sometimes the alert produces some garbage (vertical lines) on the
screen. As this seems to be a bug in the intuition alert routine and
not in my code, I haven't done anything to correct this.
If UnknownGirl is started from Workbench, then you'll lose a few KBytes
of your free memory. This is because of a bug in the WB Startup Code of
the decompacting routine. I don't know how to fix it - yet.
If UnknownGirl is started from CLI, you won't even lose a single bit,
so it might be a great idea to learn how to use the CLI if you haven't
learned it yet.
3.2. Fixed Bugs
The first song of this kind, SYNTHEMANIA, which appeared first on Fish
153, crashed on expanded machines. However, UnknownGirl and the new
version of SYNTHEMANIA also supplied on this disk run correctly on
expanded machines.
4. Contact Adress:
If you found a bug not mentioned above, if you found a way to get rid
of the loss of memory when starting UnknownGirl from the WorkBench or
if you are a computer musician like me and searching for contacts, just
get pen & paper or your favourite word processing program and start
writing me a letter:
Holger Lubitz
Kl. Drakenburger Str. 24
D-3070 Nienburg
West Germany
Or if you prefer to contact me via phone: 49 - (5021) - 2601.
(Only from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. GMT, please !)
(I'd like to get in contact with all computer musicians using Sound
Tracker or Sonix...)
5. If you want to get more programs of the UnknownGirl-type...
Then you should consider ordering:
AmigaJUICE - The on-disk-magazine for the german reader.
(One Song like UnknownGirl included in nearly every issue !)
So if german is your native language, or if you want to improve your
german, order your personal copy of AmigaJUICE now !
AmigaJUICE is Public-Domain. The only thing you have to do is to send
me a disk and two international response coupons (available at your
post office, officially called 'COUPON-RÉPONSE INTERNATIONAL') or 1.30
DM in valid german stamps if you're living in germany.
====================================================================== BYE !
