  131. This is disk 83 of the freely distributable AMIGA software library.
  132.  
  133. This disk contains a demo version of TeX, ported to the Amiga by
  134. Tomas Rokicki.  The disk is unchanged except for the following:
  135.  
  136.     (1)    I have added this file, README.list83, the standard
  137.         distribution info file, README.dist, and associated
  138.         icon files, plus "less" to read the text files.
  139.  
  140.     (2)    I have copied all the files to a freshly formatted
  141.         disk, to create the master distribution disk, using
  142.         xcopy, which preserves the file dates.  This insures
  143.         that disk fragmentation is kept to a minimum.
  144.  
  145.     (3)    In order to make room for the files I have added, I
  146.         have compressed the file TeX/inputs/amigatex.tex using
  147.         a version of compress (compress.b13) that should run on
  148.         any standard 512K amiga.  This version of compress is
  149.         found in c/compress.b13.  To recover the original file,
  150.         execute the commands:

  156. Since this is a demo version of Tom's commercial product, it has several
  157. limitations that let you get the flavor of the real thing but encourage
  158. you to buy the commercial version.  These limitations include TeX being
  159. limited to processing only small files, the previewer being limited
  160. to displaying ten pages or less, and only a small number of fonts being
  161. provided.  The full version of AmigaTeX comes on eight floppies and will
  162. handle larger documents than most mainframe versions of TeX.  See the
  163. tex/README file for further info.

  176. BlitLab        Blitlab is a program which lets you experiment with
  177.         the blitter, to your hearts content, in relative safety.
  178.         It opens a workbench window with gadgets for all the

  180.         individual registers and perform blits on a magnified
  181.         bitmap.  This is version 1.2, an update to the version
  182.         released on disk number 69.  Includes source.

  185. Ed        An editor based on the editor described in the original
  186.         Software Tools book.  It is very similar to the Unix
  187.         "ed" editor, but not identical.  Includes source.

  190. GravityWars    The object of this game is for one player to hit the
  191.         other player's ship with a missle, before being hit
  192.         yourself.  The ships and planets don't move, but
  193.         aiming the missle in the presence of gravity fields
  194.         and black holes makes hitting your target difficult.
  195.         Version 1.04, shareware, author suggests $5 donation.
  196.         This is an update to the version on disk number 70, and
  197.         includes source in Modula-2.

  200. HunkPad        Two programs to help reduce problems with padding
  201.         added by xmodem transmission.

  204. PipeHandler    An AmigaDOS pipe device which supports OPEN, CLOSE, READ,
  205.         WRITE, LOCK, EXAMINE, and EXNEXT.  Thus you can have
  206.         "named pipes".  It also supports "taps" on a pipe, to
  207.         capture all data flowing through the pipe. Version 1.2,
  208.         includes source.

  211. PopCLI        Provides a simple way of starting another CLI at any
  212.         time without having to load workbench or exit whatever
  213.         program you may be using.  Also has a builtin screen
  214.         saver mode that automatically blanks the Amiga console

  216.         period of time.  Version III, an update to the version
  217.         on disk number 40.  Includes source.

  220. Requester    A file name requester that looks like the one used in
  221.         Deluxe Paint, and a sample program for using the

  226. ScottDevice    A mountable MicroForge SCSI driver.  Supports one SCSI buss

  250.         is running, all memory allocations take place in chip
  251.         memory.  Somehow, something like this missed making it

  255. ImageTools    A set of shareware tools, submitted by the author, to
  256.         do various manipulations on IFF images, including comparison
  257.         of the color palettes of a pair of IFF images, filtering
  258.         an IFF image in various ways, producing a color usage
  259.         frequency chart for an IFF image, reducing the size of
  260.         an IFF image to produce a miniature to use as an icon,
  261.         converting an icon to an IFF image, and recoloring an IFF
  262.         image using the palette of a second image, in a least
  263.         squared error fashion.  Shareware, binary only.

  266. LowMem        Another fine freely redistributable product from ASDG.
  267.         This one is a low memory server, which is a compact shared
  268.         library which allows arbitrary processes to register their
  269.         desire to be notified of impending memory shortages.  This

  271.         may not need, so other programs can use it.  Binary only.

  361. Dme        Version 1.27 of Matt's text editor.  Dme is a simple WYSIWYG
  362.         editor designed for programmers.  It is not a WYSIWYG 
  363.         word processor in the traditional sense.  Features include
  364.         arbitrary key mapping, fast scrolling, title-line statistics
  365.         multiple windows, and ability to iconify windows.  Update

  369. DropShadow    A program that makes your WorkBench windows have

  390.         and watch for random trashing of low memory by an
  391.         application under development.  If it detects a write
  392.         to low memory, it repairs it to what used to be there,

  394.         done.  Very useful!  Version II, includes source.

  397. MovePointer    Moves the pointer to any specified location on the screen,

  494.         version except that the save option has been disabled.
