  12. All files in this archive, are protected by copyright. The author does
  13. however, reserve
  14. full copyright of Hickory. The archive may be distributed 
  15. freely, so long as all the files are distributed together in a single
  16. archive. The original archive is a ZIP compatible file, but you may
  17. rearchive to your own favourite format if required before redistributing.

  19. Anyone using the product should register with the author.

  21. The shareware concept can only work if users support shareware authors by
  22. registering their copies. Without sufficient registrations, shareware
  23. authors for the Atari computers will turn to other platforms that have a 
  24. larger user base. Registering will help keep the Atari shareware scene
  25. alive. We all have a living to make and a 
  26. family to feed, and this forms part of my income to do just that, so please
  27. do register today if you use this product.

  30. 2  NOT ANOTHER DESKCLOCK ACCESSORY?

  32. Well, firstly it seemed like a simple enough place to start some AES
  33. coding for myself. Secondly, of all the Deskclock accessories around, I've
  34. never really seen a decent one that I'd have permanently installed onto
  35. my harddisk.

  41. for every hardware/software configuration that it may be used on.

  54. 4  FILES IN ARCHIVE

  61. 5  INSTALLATION

  63. a) Copy the ACC and RSC files to the root of your boot drive.
  64.  
  65.    (If you boot from floppy then this will (most probably) be drive A:
  66.    else If you boot from hard-disk,  this will probably be C:)
  67.  
  68. b) Reboot your computer (press the little button on the back!)
  69.  
  70. c) When the ST boots, you will find another entry under the 'Desk' menu
  71.    called 'Hickory'. Selecting this will make the clock appear on the right
  72.    hand side of the screen.

  75. 6  USERS GUIDE

  77. 6.1  MOVING AND RESIZING
  78.  
  79. To move or resize the clock, first make sure that the window is topped
  80. by selecting it, then click once on the clock face. A mover bar, and
  81. resize gadget will appear allowing resizing and moving of the clock. Note
  82. that the window close gadget will remove the clock from the desktop. To
  83. bring it back, select the 'Hickory' option from the 'Desk' menu.

  85. 6.2  SETTING THE ALARM
  86.  
  87. To set the alarm, make sure the window is topped, then double-click on the
  88. clock face. A dialogue box will appear. Select the 'Set-up' option, then
  89. the 'Set Alarm' option for the dialogue box to set and enable the alarm.

  91. 6.3  SETTING THE TIME AND DATE
  92.  
  93. To change the time and date settings, proceed as 2.2.2, but select the
  94. 'Set Clock' option (rather than the Set Alarm option). A dialogue box
  95. will appear allowing you to change the current date and time.

  98. 7  COMPATIBILITY AND BUGS
  99.  
  100. This accessory was written on an Atari 1040-ST, with Tos 1.2.
  101. I have not had access to other models of Atari hardware
  102. or other revisions of TOS to check for compatibility problems.
  103. If you experience anything unexpected,
  104. or detect a bug, please let me know via the problem report form.

  107. 8  FEATURES IN FUTURE RELEASES
  108.  
  109. I hope to release further versions of this accessory. Some of the ideas
  110. I have for incorporation are as follows:
  111.  
  112. a)  Multiple alarms with date as well as time.
  113.  
  114. b)  The ability to define a message to appear when the alarm is triggered.
  115.     (e.g: "Coronation Street in 5 minutes - power off", or "Pick the
  116.     kids up from school" )
  117.  
  118. c)  The ability to designate the launch of other programs at designated
  119.     times/dates (a bit like the Unix CRON utility).
  120.  
  121. d)  All the above user configurations option saved to disk automatically
  122.     on defining, so that they are maintained and still active when you
  123.     next power up your system.
  124.  
  125. e)  To have the clock automatically reappear after having launched a GEM
  126.     program. Currently, , the AES sends a
  127.     AC_CLOSE mesage to all accessories when you double-click a program
  128.     for execution. It's a bit annoying having to manually open the
  129.     accessory every time. There must be a way around this...
  130.  
  131. If anybody has any thoughts on the above, or has ideas of features that
  132. they themselves would like to see implemented, then let me know. If enough
  133. people suggest something, I just might implement it!

  137.  
  138. The archive includes an ASCII file REGISTER.TXT. This includes all the
  139. information for you to supply when registering (together with your fee).
  140. Please take the trouble to fill it in. It's this kind of feedback that
  141. gets you future shareware products of some use to you.

  144. 10  PROBLEM REPORTING
  145.  
  146. The archive includes the ASCII file REPORT.TXT for problem reporting.
  147. Please fill it in as comprehensively as you can. I can only solve problems
  148. if I have ALL the information to hand that I need.

  150. Note though that I cannot guarantee to solve all problems, although I
  151. will obviously do what I can.

  154. 10  CONTACTING THE AUTHOR

  156. Several methods available. 
  157. Firstly using good old Royal Mail. This is probably the best bet, but you
  158. can try your luck on either Saxon BBS (Brighton based on 0273-??????) or 
  159. Fortress BBS (), or one of the BBS-NETs that supply these boards.
