  2. Release notes for VStation Amiga Professional Demo
  3. --------------------------------------------------

  5. Introduction:
  6. -------------
  7.  
  8.     This version of VStation Amiga Professional is provided to allow
  9.     people to take a close look at the software before considering
  10.     purchasing it. It doesn't save anything, edit performs are 
  11.     converted to previews, and various other features are disabled
  12.     but for the most part the program is intact. This includes the
  13.     toaster interface, serial communication, and pretty much everything
  14.     needed to see how the program works. Transport control,
  15.     online help, loading data, edit previews, and many other
  16.     functions operate the same way as the release version.
  17.     
  18. Requirements:
  19. -------------
  20.  
  21.     VSPro requires about one megabyte of free memory to load and run.
  22.     
  23.     It does not require a Video Toaster, but is well integrated with it
  24.     if present.
  25.     
  26.     SunRize Industries SoundSwitch control is supported.
  27.     DPS Personal Animation Recorder control is supported.
  28.     DPS TBC-III and TBC-IV control is supported.
  29.     
  30.     Note: Support for additional hardware can be accomplished via ARexx.

  32. Installation:
  33. -------------

  35.     Floppy Disk Installation:    
  36.     -------------------------

  38.         No installation is neccessary. The program can be used
  39.         directly from the floppy, but function hooks, keyboard
  40.         macros, and other features will be slower.
  41.     
  42.     Hard Drive Installation:
  43.     ------------------------
  44.     
  45.         To install VSPro, double-click the 'InstallVSPro' icon and follow 
  46.         the instructions given by the installer program to copy the
  47.         program and it's related directories onto your hard drive.
  48.         It will also add a VS: assign to the user-startup file the
  49.         first time you perform the install. Requires the standard
  50.         AmigaDOS Install command.

  53.     The major files and directories being installed are:
  54.     ----------------------------------------------------
  55.         VSPro                        The executable
  56.         VSPro.Readme            This file
  57.         VSPro.Guide                The AmigaGuide documentation.
  58.         
  59.         EDL                        Directory with a small set of projects
  60.                                     already present to be used for testing.
  61.                                     
  62.         EDLOperations            Directory of ARexx programs that are
  63.                                     executed when the user selects them
  64.                                     in the EDL window.
  65.         
  66.         Commands                    Directory of ARexx programs used by
  67.                                     VSPro for various things.
  68.                                     
  69.         Tapelogs                    Directory with a few sample tapelogs.
  70.         
  71.         Envarc/VStation        Directory of environment variables
  72.                                     and keyboard macros.
  73.                                     
  74.         ..and a few other files will be placed in the same directory.

  76.     Removing the Installation from your System:
  77.     -------------------------------------------
  78.         
  79.         To remove the files installed by the Installer, run the installer
  80.         again. When it starts, it will detect the presence of the VStation
  81.         files and prompt for permission to delete them. Once the files
  82.         have been deleted, it will continue with the install script which
  83.         should be aborted if the software is to be permanently removed
  84.         from the system. If continued, however, it can be used to
  85.         re-install the VStation environment files to ENVARC:, providing
  86.         a means to selectively add and remove the sounds, function hooks,
  87.         keyboard macros and setup files from ENVARC:.

  89.         To remove the VSPro program and other support
  90.         files, simply delete the entire VStation directory created
  91.         by the Installer. Careful!
  92.

  94. Documentation:
  95. --------------

  97.     At this time, the most current documentation for the program
  98.     is in the AmigaGuide file 'VSPro.Guide', which will be placed
  99.     in the same directory as the VSPro program. Requires AmigaGuide
  100.     to be installed on your system, which is part of the standard
  101.     AmigaDOS Workbench configuration.
  102.     
  103. Using the program:
  104. ------------------
  105.  
  106.     The icon named    'VSPro' is the program icon, and it's tooltypes are used to
  107.     define certain variables used by the initialization procedures.
  108.     Their default values should work for most users, but they 
  109.     provide the option of changing the ARexx portname, window
  110.     refresh mode, and other features that can help optimize the
  111.     program for your system. To change the tooltype variables, select
  112.     the icon once and select the menu function 'Icon Information'.
  113.     Refer to the AmigaDOS manual for more information about editing
  114.     icon information.
  115.     
  116.     Start the program by double clicking on the VSPro icon. Here's
  117.     a couple of important things to know about the VSPro interface:
  118.         . The help key turns on the online help, and when followed
  119.             by another keystroke it is used to define keyboard
  120.             macros.
  121.         . The right mouse button does not activate menus; it is 
  122.             used instead as a 'qualifier' for gadget hits to 
  123.             change the way some gadgets operate. For instance, you
  124.             can clear an edit point by holding the right mouse
  125.             button while left clicking on it's gadget.
  126.         . If you have enough memory, you can read the amigaguide
  127.             on the workbench at the same time that VSPro is running.
  128.             Use the screen depth gadgets or the left-amiga-M key to
  129.             cycle screens.

  134. VStation Amiga Professional version 1 released on 3-15-1995
  135.     Lots of changes, improvements over v2.x that are
  136.     described in the supplied AmigaGuide manual 'VSPro.guide'. Improved 
  137.     interface and toaster support, optimized the edit process, added 
  138.     cut and paste edl, ARexx EDL operations, keyboard macros, CMX translation,
  139.     edit performance statistics, and much more.

  142.     Improved interface and added basic edl support, tapelogs, toaster
  143.     control, and ARexx support for almost all functions.
