CREDITS
Boot Block Checker was written using BLITZ BASIC 2 V1.70.
HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION
From Workbench just drag the drawer across to
where you want it.
THE PROGRAM
Boot Block Checker as the name suggests checks the boot block
of floppy disks. It can also remove and/or install boot
blocks. All current DOS types are accepted.(OS1.3, OS2.x
OS3.0) Excluding disk which are High Density. (ie A4000)
QUIT
Exit Boot Block Checker
CHECK
Clicking on this checks the boot block in the selected drive
then informs you of the status of the boot block
O/System - This is the operating system that the disk was
formatted under. NOTE there is no difference
between disk formatted as OFS & FFS with or
without being bootable which where formatted
using OS 2.x and 3.0 and as such will always
show as being formatted using OS 2.x
Format - This is the format of the disk ie * OFS
(Old File System) * OFSystem / Dir Cache *
FFSystem / Int Mode
Bootable - Can the disk be booted Yes/NO
Non - Standard boot Block this is reported when the program
looks at the boot block and says to it self hang on a sec
this does not look like a normal boot block. It is nothing
to be concerned about because some disks do not have
standard boot blocks. These boot blocks could have been
modified by PD programs (ie a programs which display iff ilbm
files using the boot block). Also some commercial programs
have custom boot blocks. Although if you can not be 100% about
a boot block on a disk then use a Virus Checker to check the
boot block. Boot Block Checker recognise boot blocks
installed by ZeroVirus III & XCopy
Install - Installs a boot block on the selected drive
Note - The programs will install a OS 2.x
on disk formatted using OS 1.3 this makes no
difference to the disk ands its bootblock. These
disk can still be used on OS 1.3 systems
Remove - Removes a boot block form the select drive
TO SELECT A DRIVE
simple click on a non ghosted DF box
CAUTION
To remove or installed boot blocks to some commercial
or Public Domain disks can in effect make that disk/program
unuseable.
