DosK V1.0 Release 1.0
======================
Amiga Dos Enhanser
DosK V1.0 ©January 1994 By Kenneth J. McCormick. All Rights Reserved.
This enhansed version of Amiga Dos is giftware. It can be distributed
freely if the following conditions are met:
1. It is kept fully intact
2. It is not altered in any way
3. No renumeration of any kind is received for it without my written
consent except by Fred Fish's nominal fee for his disks or CDs
What is Needed to Run DosK
1. You must be using Workbench 3.0 or above
2. You need a Bootable Hard Drive.
HOW TO USE DosK
Nothing could be simpler. Type the usual Amiga Dos command but add a 'K' at
the end and you will be in DosK. The exception to this is a DosK Command that has
no Amiga Dos equivlent.
E.G. To use the directory command type DirK
An example of a unique DosK Command is VidK, is has no Amiga Dos equivlent
DosK HELP is also very easy to access, there are 2 ways to get to it:
1. Type the DosK Command and add a '?' at the end
E.G. DirK?
2. Type HelpK and a file requestor appears with a listing of
all command help and pick the one you want.
E.G. HelpK
Simple enough ?
REMEMBER NOT ALL AMIGA DOS COMMANDS HAVE BEEN ENHANSED BUT ALMOST ALL OF THE MOST
COMMONLY USED ONES HAVE BEEN.
UNIQUE DosK COMMANDS
I have and will be creating dos commands using the best of the Public Domain
Sys:C type programs and enhansing them to Create a DosK Command. An example
of this is VidK which uses the PAL and NTSC PD Programs that change your
screen mode. Thd DosK Command VidK changes your screen mode between PAL
and NTSC by the press of a button. When you use the installer you will
be given the option of installing the PD programs to your WorkBench C
directory where they MUST be in order for the DosK Command to operate.
HARD DRIVE SPACE REQUIRED TO RUN DosK V1.0 Rel 1.0
The DosK Commands use approximately 48,000 bytes of space
The Dosk Help files take up approximately 230,000 bytes of space
Trade Off to save storage space:
You can save approximately 156,000 bytes by NOT installing the
Dosk Help ICONS.
ADVANTAGE - THE SPACE YOU SAVE
DISADVANTAGE - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE INDIVIDUAL HELP
FOR DosK THROUGH THE WORKBENCH BY OPENING THE DRAWER CALLED KHELP
AND CLICKING ON THE ICON, BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WILL STILL WORK THE
SAME WHEN USING DOS.
Q What the heck is DosK Anyway ?
A DosK is an enhansement to the Amiga Dos system. It does not replace Amiga
Dos but rather improves it. While Amiga Dos has improved over the years
it still uses the same interface. This interface is the typed line that
scrolls past the screen and requires a great knowledge of the options
available with each Amiga Dos Command. DosK allows you to use Amiga
Dos commands without typing, in most cases, and very little in others.
DosK will never scroll past the screen since it supplies a scroll bar
which will allow you to scroll back up and see what slid past you. Now
you can also print any text screen without having to use a dump program
and it is done by using one of the menus that are now at the top of
your screen along with bookmarks and many other goodies.
More good news:
DosK has its own commands that will increase the usefulness of Amiga Dos.
HOW TO INSTALL DosK
1. OPEN THE TAB ON THE DISK CONTAINING DosK
2. INSERT THE DISK IN DRIVE DF0:
3. CLICK ON THE INSTALL ICON
4. AFTER INSTALLATION COMPLETE RESET THE COMPUTER BEFORE USE
Please Note - a copy of your origional User-Startup file will be saved in
the drawer ORIGIONAL_US. This wasn't necessary but I thought you
might like to save it.

Things you should know:
MANY OF THE 'K COMMANDS' USE ENVIROMENTAL VARIABLES. IT IS IMPORTANT
THAT YOU NEVER REQUEST A GADGET TO CARRY OUT A FUNCTION AFTER YOU
HAVE PRESSED CANCEL ON A FILE REQUESTER BECAUSE THE LAST FUNCTION
OR FILE IDENTIFIED WILL STILL BE REPRESENTED BY THE VARIABLE, HENCE
YOU MAY, FOR EXAMPLE, CREATE A FILE WHERE YOU DIDN'T WANT ONE ETC.
WHEN USING A FILE REQUESTOR(S) MAKE SURE THE DESIRED INFORMATION
APPEARS ON THE LINES OF THE REQUESTOR(S) BEFORE SAVING. IF THERE IS
SOMETHING TO BE TYPED IN MAKE SURE YOU DO IT.
ONE DosK Command uses Sound. To fully ulitize this command you should
set the Workbench Prefs/Sound to Flash and Bell or Sampled Sound.
Future commands will, no doubt, use more sound so I suggest you set
the sound as specified above.
====================================================================
PLEASE NOTE - I am only explaining the few commands that are a
little unusual since all commands have their own help.
====================================================================
AliasK:
BreakK:
BreakK ONLY WORKS ON DOS COMMANDS AND ITS OPERATION IS THE SAME AS
THE BREAK COMMAND. IT DOESN'T WORK IN ALL INSTANCES SINCE THE
BREAK COMMAND DOESN'T.
CmdK:
THE OPTIONS ON CmdK DO NOT SEEM TO DO MUCH. I HAVEN'T TRIED THEM ON
ANY BIG TEXT FILES, MAYBE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE ?
ConclipK:
Conclip can be turned off by click the button but this doesn't
clear the clipboard of any clips.
InstallK:
THIS COMMAND ONLY USES THE FAST FILE SYSTEM SINCE IT HAS BEEN A
STANDARD SINCE WORKBENCH V1.3. IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL OLDER DISKS
FROM PRE WORKBENCH V1.3 USE THE REGULAR DOS COMMAND INSTALL.
SearchK:
I PUT A LOT OF INTERMEDIATE REQUESTORS IN THIS ONE TO LET YOU CHANGE
YOUR MIND AT DIFFERENT STAGES IN THE CHOICE MODES, IF TOO MANY PLEASE
DROP ME A LINE AND I WILL REMOVE SOME.
