Constitution - (Interregnum)
This game uses two card packs, the odds are in the players favour.
Original game play taken from The Penguin Book of Patience By David Parlett.
MS Windows (TM) Version by John Gould (C) 1993,1994
Layout
------
A row of eight cards (the 'indicators') are initially dealt at the
top of the playing area. Below this eight bases are displayed. An empty
base consists of a round cornered card size rectangle containing the
value of the founding card. Finally a second row of eight cards are
dealt below the bases (middle row).
This constitutes eight wastepiles which will be extended in columns
towards the bottom of the playing area.
Object
------
To build eight suits in the middle row, in ascending sequence but
regardless of suit. The base card of each suit, to be founded as and
when it becomes available, is to be one rank higher than the indicator
above it in the top row, this is the value displayed in the empty round
cornered rectangle. The indicator itself will subsequently be
used to crown the suit to show that it has been completed.
If the 'Alternate' option is set the founding card must be the same
colour as the indicator, the sequence alternates in colour as each base
is built up. The 'Any' option (default) allows any colour build sequence.
Example
-------
Suppose the leftmost card of the top row is a Jack, the empty
base below will contain a Q. When a Queen turns up, set her below the
Jack as a base, and build K, A, 2 and so on.
When the ten is reached, crown that suite with the Jack and cease
building. The crowned pile will change to display the card back picture.
Play
----
Click and drag to move cards, click on the pack to deal a fresh row
of eight cards.
All cards in the bottom row are immediately available for founding as
bases or building on any suite in the middle row. When all such moves
have been made, deal the next eight cards of stock by clicking with
your mouse on the pack displayed at the top left of the playing area.
A new set of eight cards is then dealt from left to right across the
bottom row, filling vacancies from which previous cards have already
been built.
Where a card covers another, they are overlapped so that both are visible.
Having dealt, pause and make any builds that may be possible.
Each exposed card in the bottom row is available. When built, it releases
the one below it for building. Continue in the same way, building as
far as possible, then clicking on the pack to deal a further eight cards,
then building again, and so on. There is no redeal.

Version 1.2 21st June 1994
Constitution now includes a choice of card backs, use the deck option from
the pull down menu. The selected card back is saved in a constutn.ini
file which is placed in the Windows directory. No other modifications are
made to any directory structure and no modifications are made to any other
Windows .ini or other file(s).
An end of game display is now incorporated. You will have to play the game
and stack all of the cards to see the end of game display.
Version 1.21 16th August 1994
This release is a bug fix for Version 1.2, 21st of June 94 release.
On successfull completion of the game, if the player used the drop down
menu to request a new game, card smudging occurred when dragging the cards.
If the player clicked on the active display window or minimised the game
the new game obtained via this route did not exhibit the problem.
The 16th of August release allows a new game to be requested with either
method without problem.
