  2. Alternate Joystick Routines

  6. | If you are experiencing lockups, bad calibration data, or any |
  7. |  other problems concerning joystick calibration, you may want |
  8. |        to give this alternate set of routines a try.          |

  11. Included in this archive are two files :
  12.  
  13.     README.TXT    This file
  14.     WC3JOY.DLL    The alternate joystick routines
  15.  
  16. This alternate joystick DLL (set of alternate routines) is 
  17. being provided for users who are experiencing problems with 
  18. Wing Commander III's initial joystick calibration phase 
  19. during the install program. You must have a joystick to
  20. use this patch.
  21.  
  22. NOTE :  THIS PATCH MAY NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. If the current
  23.         joystick routines work fine, DO NOT use this patch.
  24.

  26. Installation
  27. ------------
  28.  
  29. 1)  Disconnect your joystick.
  30.  
  31. 2)  Type  "MD C:\WC3"  and press  [ENTER]. If the directory
  32.     already exists, no harm done.
  33.     
  34. 3)  Copy the WC3JOY.EXE file to your C:\WC3 directory.
  35.     Type "COPY WC3JOY.EXE C:\WC3"  and press  [ENTER].
  36.  
  37. 4)  Change to the C:\WC3 directory.
  38.     Type "C:"  and press  [ENTER].
  39.     Type "CD \WC3"  and press  [ENTER].
  40.  
  41. 5)  Type "WC3JOY" and press [ENTER].
  42.  
  43. 6)  The two files (README.TXT and WC3JOY.DLL) will be extracted.
  44.  
  45. 7)  Reconnect your joystick.
  46.  
  47. 8)  Run the Wing Commander III installation program with
  48.     "WC3 -I". The message :
  49.  
  50.     "Loading Wing Commander III ......
  51.      Alternate joystick DLL loaded."
  52.     
  53.     should appear. This shows the loading of the DLL was 
  54.     successful. Recalibrate your joystick, and make sure all 
  55.     settings are correct. 
  56.  
  57. 8)  Whenever WC3 is now run, it will load the WC3JOY.DLL file 
  58.     in the C:\WC3 directory. You do not need to run the
  59.     installation program every time to use the patch, just
  60.     use WC3. The patch loads automatically.
