  4. The following is important last minute information that was
  5. not included in your user's guide at the time of release.
  6. Please read before running the program.

  9. SIGNATURE SYMBOLS
  10. =====================
  11. Signature Symbols can only be inserted on the back panel (panel 4)
  12. of the card, the button will be grayed while in the other views or
  13. panels.

  16. SHAPE TEXT
  17. ===============
  18. The Shape Text feature is only available in the Windows 95 version.
  19. In Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11 this option will be grayed out on the 
  20. toolbar.

  23. PRINTER DRIVERS
  24. =======================
  25. If you have any of the printers below, you may experience the
  26. following problems depending on the driver version you have.  You
  27. can check with Hewlett Packard directly for information on how
  28. to obtain the most current or most stable driver files.

  31. HEWLETT PACKARD DESKJETS 660, 660C AND ABOVE
  32. ==================================================
  33. Shape Text in Windows 95 will not print correctly.  Hewlett Packard
  34. is aware of the problem and is currently working on a new driver 
  35. version.  You can use the drivers for the 560C for improved results.
  36.

  38. INK-JET PRINTERS IN GENERAL (HP,CANON,etc)
  39. ================================================
  40. Please keep in mind that many of the popular ink-jet printers have
  41. a natural 1/2" margin at the bottom of the page.  You may experience
  42. cut-offs of some designs, specially if you are printing on custom
  43. paper that requires a 1/4" margin.

  46. HEWLETT PACKARD LASERJETS
  47. ===============================
  48. - Drop Shadows on text will print out as black, regardless of the
  49.   color selected.  
  50.  
  51. - Text with Color Fills (gradients, etc.) may not print correctly.
  52.  
  53. There are some options you may try that involve the settings for how
  54. your printer downloads True Type fonts.  Changing those settings
  55. for your particular printer may give you better results. Please
  56. consult the printer user's guide for instructions.

  58. ======================
  59. COLOR RESOLUTION
  60. ======================
  61. For best results, we recommend you run Windows in 16-bit color
  62. (65,000 colors) when using this program.  You may experience 
  63. "palette shifts" in Windows 256 colors mode when changing
  64. paper backgrounds or importing images in 256 colors or more.  Please
  65. consult your Windows user's guide for information on how to set
  66. your color mode to 16-bit color.

  69. PROGRAM SPEED
  70. ===================
  71. Holiday Card Maker is optimized to run on Pentium systems.  If you
  72. have a 486 PC with 8 Megs of RAM or more, the program will run but
  73. at a slower speed, specially where images are being loaded.  There
  74. are some things you can do to improve performance on your system:
  75.  
  76. - Close any other programs you are using at the same time.
  77. - In the Card Rack screen, un-check the thumbnails option. This will
  78.   load only one image instead of six.
  79. - In the Card Editor Screen, you can turn the background artwork off.
  80.   this will speed up layout functions.

  83. USER TIPS
  84. ===============
  85. - Do not set the paper size for cards or paper through Print Setup!  
  86.   You should leave the settings for printing on regular 8 1/2" x 11"
  87.   paper (or A4 paper).  If you wish to print on a blank card that is
  88.   not of standard dimensions, enter this information in the Card Setup
  89.   menu in the program.

  91. - Insert envelopes into the printer only as shown in the Print dialog
  92.   box. Some printers have specific settings for printing envelopes 
  93.   and ask you to feed them into the feed tray in a certain way. Be sure
  94.   you use the Print Configuration option in the File menu before
  95.   printing.

  97. - Use the Refresh Screen (Ctrl+W) command to re-draw the screen if
  98.   you see bits left over while moving objects, or if the color of the
  99.   paper background becomes affected while running in 256 colors.
  100.  
  101. - You can edit text fields on the screen by double-clicking on them. 
  102.  
  103. - "Pre-Printed Card Stock" card designs will be shown on the screen
  104.   when this type of card is selected.  They are included only for
  105.   screen preview purposes and artwork will not print out.  You may 
  106.   order the real cards from Fintech (details in Help File), and print
  107.   your graphics out on them.
