There are two iterations of version 4.4 of the IMDISP program in
this subdirectory: 1) standard version 4.4 as released by PDS
(IMDISP.44), and 2) beta version 4.4X (IMDISP.44X) modified from
version 4.4 by USGS.
Version 4.4 of the IMDISP program from PDS includes support for
standard VGA graphics mode (640 x 480 x 16 colors) and for the
Orchid Designer display device (with 512 KB. of RAM) in 640 x 480
x 256 colors or 800 x 600 x 256 colors mode. In order to setup
IMDISP to use these graphics modes you must set a MS-DOS
environment variable prior to executing IMDISP.
To set the environment variable using version 4.4, use one of the
following MS-DOS commands as appropriate:
SET IMDISP=VGA (to turn on VGA graphics)
SET IMDISP=ORCHID (to turn on 480 x 640 Orchid graphics)
SET IMDISP=ORCHID800 (to turn on 600 x 800 Orchid graphics)
Version 4.4X of the IMDISP program includes support for the Ahead
Systems Inc. VGA Wizard/Deluxe board (rev. A only), and the
Paradise Systems, Inc. VGA Professional card. Both of these cards
will with a minimum of 512 KB. of RAM will support the 640 x 480 x
256 colors mode. Version 4.4X is still considered a beta version
and is included here for your convenience. If you experience
problems with version 4.4X, please notify one of the USGS contacts
listed in the README.1ST file.
To set the environment variable using version 4.4X, use one of the
MS-DOS commands shown above, or one of the following as
appropriate:
SET IMDISP=PARADISE (to turn on 480 x 640 Paradise graphics)
SET IMDISP=WIZARD (to turn on 480 x 640 Wizard graphics)
Both of the iterations included in this subdirectory are .EXE
programs. Simply copy either or both to a subdirectory of your
choice on your hard drive (we recommend \IMDISP), renaming the
file(s) to include the .EXE extension (e.g.: IMDISP.EXE,
IMDISP44.EXE, IMDSP44X.EXE, et cetera).
Complete instructions for using the IMDISP program can be found in
the users manual, file IMDISP.DOC in this subdirectory. For your
convenience in reading it, it can first be sent to your printer
(note: the document is 34 pages long).
