THIS LESSON IS DIVIDED INTO 4 SECTIONS COVERING:
1) THE STATUS LINE.
2) MESSAGES
3) THE SCREEN
4) THE QUICK MENU AND SUBMENUS
<end>
THE STATUS LINE IS THE UPPER MOST DISPLAYED INFO. ON SCREEN
FROM THE LEFT FIRST IS THE FUNCTION BAR WHICH DISPLAYS THE
NAME OF THE FUNCTION OR THE ACTIVE AREAS "CONSTRUCTION AREA"
AND THE "GROUPS AREA".
TO DEMONSTRATE LET US PRESS "1" TO CALL THE MENU AND SELECT
CIRCLES. NOTE THE DISPLAY OF THE FUNCTION BAR.
<end>
PRESSING "." EXITS THE FUNCTION & THE FUNCTION BAR DISPLAYS
"CONSTRUCTION AREA".
<end>
THE COLOR OF THE FUNCTION BAR INDICATES THE ACTIVE COLOR.
CURRENTLY THE COLOR GREEN IS THE ACTIVE COLOR. UNLESS A
DIFFERENT COLOR IS SELECTED, ALL SHAPES ARE DRAWN USING
THE COLOR GREEN.
<end>
THE NEXT ITEM ON THE STATUS LINE IS THE COLOR BAR. THERE
ARE 6 COLORS AVAILABLE. LET US SELECT RED (COLOR NUMBER 2).
NOTICE THE COLOR OF THE FUNCTION BAR REFLECTS THIS CHANGE.
<end>
A COLOR MAY BE TURNED OFF BY ACTIVATING THE CURSOR OVER THAT
COLOR TWICE (ONCE IF CURRENT COLOR). IF A COLOR IS TURNED
OFF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CONSTRUCTION AREA IGNOR ALL OBJECTS
OF THAT COLOR. THIS IS NOT TRUE IN THE GROUPS AREA.
IN THE GROUPS AREA, GROUPS ARE MANAGED USING "LEVELS".
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE TO DEMONSTRATE THE ABOVE.
<end>
TO TURN OFF CYAN, THE CURSOR MUST BE ACTIVATED ON THAT COLOR
TWICE.
<end>
NOTICE THAT THE COLOR CYAN IS TURNED OFF.
ALL ELEMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA DRAWN IN CYAN ARE NOW
TURNED OFF AND CANNOT BE EDITED AT ALL.
HERE IS AN ATTEMPT TO ERASE USING WINDOW.
<end>
IF THE CYAN RECTANGLE WAS VISIBLE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ERASED.
<end>
TO TURN ON CYAN ACTIVATE CURSOR ON THAT COLOR ONCE.
<end>
WHEN PLOTTING (PRINTING) COLORS CORRESPOND TO PEN WEIGHTS.
ON ALL DRAWINGS USE THE SAME COLOR TO REPRESENT THE SAME PEN
WEIGHT. USE GREEN TO DRAW ALL THICK LINES YELLOW FOR MEDIUM
& CYAN FOR THIN LINES. THESE ARE THE EASIEST COLORS ON THE
EYES. OTHER MAY REPRESENT LESS FREQUENTLY USED PEN WEIGHTS.
BLUE (4) FOR HATCH LINES AND MAGENTA FOR GRAY INK.
<end>
THE NEXT ITEM ON THE STATUS LINE IS THE TABLE INDICATOR. THE
OPTIONS ARE "TV01" AND "TV02". THERE ARE TWO INDEPENDENT
TABLES(OR SCREENS). EACH TABLE MAY CONTAIN A DIFFERENT DRAW-
ING. GROUPS (BLOCKS) MAY BE PASSED FROM A TABLE TO ANOTHER.
EITHER "/" OR CLICKING ON THE "TV01" BUTTON CHANGES TABLES.
NOW LET US LOAD THE DRAWING CALLED SAMPLE1.
<end>
NOW LET US CHANGE TV01 TO TV02 USING THE "/". NOTICE THE
CHANGE ON THE STATUS LINE.
<end>
THE CURRENT TABLE IS TV02 AND IS EMPTY. THE CURRENT COLOR IS
GREEN AND THE GROUPS AREA IS WHERE WE ARE. PRESS "5" TO GO
TO THE CONSTRUCTION AREA AND DRAW A RECTANGLE.
<end>
NOW PRESSING "/" A FEW TIMES DISPLAYS TV01 AND TV02. EACH
TIME THE CONTENTS OF EACH TABLE IS DISPLAYED. ALSO NOTICE
THE CHANGE ON THE STATUS LINE.
<end>
NOW LET US COPY SOME GROUPS FROM TV01 TO TV02. PRESS "/"
TO DISPLAY TV01.
<end>
PRESS "5" AND GO THE GROUPS AREA. NOTE THE FUNCTION BAR
CURRENTLY DISPLAYS "CONSTRUCTION AREA" (THE CURSOR OF THE
CONSTRUCTION AREA IS A CROSS AND THAT OF THE GROUPS AREA
IS A SQUARE).
<end>
COPY A CHAIR FROM TV01 (THE CURRENT TABLE) TO TV02.
USING THE FUNCTION "COPY BETWEEN TABLES", COMPLETELY
CONTAIN A CHAIR IN A WINDOW, THEN PICK IT UP BY A POINT.
UPON PICKING UP THE COMPLETELY CONTAINED GROUP, THE OTHER
TABLE IS AUTOMATICALLY DISPLAYED.
<end>
TV01 WAS AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED TO TV02 AND THE RECTANGLE (IN
CONSTRUCTION AREA APPEARS IN A DOT PATTERN) IS DISPLAYED.
<end>
ACTIVATE CURSOR TO PLACE THE CHAIR ANYWHERE ON THE SCREEN.
<end>
PRESS "/" A FEW TIMES TO SEE THE CONTENTS OF THE TWO TABLES
ALTERNATIVELY.
<end>
THE NEXT BUTTON ON THE STATUS LINE IS THE LEVEL INDICATOR.
LEVEL 001 (LV001) IS THE CURRENT LEVEL. THERE ARE 256
LEVELS. EACH LEVEL MAY CONTAIN AS MANY GROUPS OF ANY COLOR.
ONCE A SHAPE IS CREATED IN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA, IT MUST
BE MADE INTO A GROUP (BLOCK). ALL GROUPS ARE AUTOMATICALLY
ASSIGNED TO A LEVEL. *** LEVELS ARE IN GROUPS AREA ONLY.***
<end>
HERE IS A HEXAGON WITH SIX INDEPENDENTLY EDITABLE (WHILE IN
CONSTRUCTION AREA) SIDES. ALL 6 SIDES MUST BE GROUPED
SIMULTANEOUSLY. NOW USING THE FUNCTION "WINDOW CC"
GROUP ALL 6 SIDES OF THE HEXAGON.
<end>
NOW DRAW A WINDOW ENCOMPASSING THE HEXAGON.
<end>
THE HEXAGON HAS BEEN GROUPED AND SENT TO LEVEL 001 OF THE
GROUPS AREA AND IT APPEARS IN A DOT PATTERN. WE ARE STILL IN
THE CONSTRUCTION AREA (NOTICE THE SHAPE OF THE CURSOR).
<end>
WHEN WE ARE IN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA THE CONTENTS OF THE
GROUPS AREA APPEAR IN A DOT PATTERN. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT
VISUAL INDICATION. THIS IS A WAY OF SEPARATING THE CONTENTS
OF THE GROUPS AND THE CONSTRUCTION AREAS.
ALL THAT APPEARS DOTTED IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE FUNCTIONS OF
THE CURRENT AREA AND IS THEREFORE PROTECTED.
<end>
THE NEXT BUTTON ON THE STATUS LINE INDICATES THE CURRENT
STYLE OF THE DISPLAY OF COORDINATES THAT FOLLOW THE CURSOR.
IT IS CURRENTLY SET TO METERS. NOW CHANGE THE COORDINATES
TO FEET DECIMAL DISPLAY OR "FEETD". NOTICE THE CHANGE ON
THE STATUS LINE.
<end>
THE LAST BUTTON DISPLAYS THE CURRENT TIME ACCORDING TO THE
SYSTEM'S INTERNAL CLOCK.
<end>
----------------------- PART TWO ------------------------
THE DATA COMMUNICATION LINE APPEARS DIRECTLY BELOW THE
STATUS LINE TO COMMUNICATE INFORMATION TO YOU.
FOR EXAMPLE PRESSING "F10" ALLOWS MANUAL INPUT OF THE
CURSOR COORDINATES FIRST HORIZONTALLY AND THEN VERTICALLY.
NOW LET US PRESS "F10".
<end>
NUMBERS 12.0 (FEET) AND 8.0 (FEET) HAVE BEEN ENTERED.
IN GENERAL THE "DATA LINE" DISPLAYS THE SYSTEM'S MESSAGES.
<end>
---------------------- PART THREE ------------------------
THE SCREEN. THE CURSOR ASSUMES THE SHAPE OF A CROSS WHEN
WE ARE IN CONSTRUCTION AREA. THE CURSOR APPEARS IN THE
SHAPE OF A SQUARE WHEN WE ARE IN THE GROUPS AREA. THE CURSOR
APPEARS AS A WHITE TRANSPARENT RECTANGLE WHEN SELECTING A
FUNCTION OR A SUBMENU OPTION. THE CURSOR NEVER LEAVES THE
SCREEN AND THE COORDINATES ALWAYS FOLLOW THE CURSOR.
<end>
THE CURSOR COORDINATES DISPLAY THE MOVEMENT OF THE
CURSOR IN CARTESIAN OR POLAR MODE. FURTHERMORE THE CURSOR
COORDINATES DISPLAY THE ABOVE IN RELATIVE OR ABSOLUTE MODE.
CURRENTLY THE CURSOR COORDINATES ARE DISPLAYED IN CARTESIAN
RELATIVE MEANING, DISTANCES ARE MEASURED HORIZ. & VERITCALLY
FROM THE LAST POINT WHREE THE CURSOR WAS ACTIVATED.
<end>
"F7" TOGGLES THE CURSOR'S MODE BETWEEN RELATIVE & ABSOLUTE.
"F8" TOGGLES THE CURSOR'S MODE BETWEEN CARTESIAN & POLAR.
**THE DEFAULT SETTING OF THE CURSOR IS RELATIVE/CARTESIAN**
AT HIGHER ZOOM FACTORS THE GRID DOTS OF THE SCREEN BECOME
VISIBLE. LET US TRY THIS.
<end>
THE GRID IS WHITE IF THE SNAP MODE IS ON (KEY "4" TOGGLES
THE SNAP MODE ON/OFF). THE GRID APPEARS GREEN IF THE SNAP
MODE IS TURNED OFF.
TO MEASURE DISTANCES ON THE SCREEN SET CURSOR COORDINATES
TO RELATIVE (CARTESIAN OR POLAR) MODE. SET THE COORDINATES
TO ZERO AT POINT YOU ARE MEASURING FROM.
<end>
TO MEASURE DISTANCES, SET COORDINATES TO ZERO BY PRESSING
"0" THEN MOVE THE CURSOR OVER ANOTHER POINT. READ THE CURSOR
COORDINATES WHICH CORRESPOND TO THE DISTANCE MEASURED.
LET US PRESS "0" AND SET THE COORDINATES TO ZERO, THEN MOVE
CURSOR RIGHT AND READ THE HORIZONTAL MOVEMENT OF THE CURSOR.
<end>
THE TOP NUMBER OF THE COORDINATES IS 0.164 FEET INDICATING
0.164 FEET OF MOVEMENT.
NOW LET US TRY A DIFFERENT COORDINATE READ OUT BY CHANGING
FROM FEET DECIMAL DISPLAY (FEETD AS SEEN ON THE STATUS LINE)
TO METERS. FROM THE MAIN MENU SELECT THE "COORDINATES"
FUNCTION THEN SELECT THE "METER" OPTION FORM IT'S SUBMENU.
<end>
MOVING THE CURSOR BACK TO THE SAME POINT ON THE SCREEN WE
CAN SEE THAT THE SAME DISTANCE READS 0.05 METERS. THIS IS
ONE OF THE A VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE SINCE IT CAN INSTANTLY
CHANGE THE COORDINATES OF A DRAWING AT A PUSH A BUTTON AND
IT IS VERY VALUABLE FOR THOSE WHO WORK WITH OTHER COUNTRIES.
<end>
WHEN THE SNAP MODE IS OFF (THE GRID IS DISPLAYED IN GREEN)
THE CURSOR CAN MOVE VERY SMALL DISTANCES. WHEN SNAP IS OFF
THE SMALLEST MOVEMENT OF CURSOR IS EQUAL TO THAT OF THE
DRAWING'S RESOLUTION. THE DRAWING RESOLUTION IS SET USING
THE FUNCTION "PARAMETERS" OF THE CONSTRUCTION AREA MENU.
PRESS "4" AND ZOOM UP TO SEE THE GREEN GRID DOTS.
<end>
NOW LET US MEASURE THE SMALLEST MOVEMENT OF THE CURSOR.
FIRST PRESS "0" TO SET THE COORDINATES TO ZERO THEN MOVE
CURSOR TO THE RIGHT.
<end>
THE SMALLEST MOVEMENT OF THE CURSOR IS .005 METERS OR
5 MILLIMETERS AS CAN BE SEEN ON THE SYSTEM STATUS TABLE.
PRESS "1" TWICE (ONCE DISPLAYS THE MENU) TO SEE THE SYSTEM
STATUS TABLE. IN THIS DEMONSTRATION THE SYSTEM STATUS TABLE
DISAPPEARS RATHER QUICKLY. LATER EXANIME THIS TABLE CLOSELY.
<end>
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES OF FLASH! IS ITS ABILITY
TO INTERACTIVELY ZOOM & PAN AT ANY TIME. THE ZOOM FUNCTION IS
ACTIVATED BY PRESSING "2" TO ZOOM DOWN AND "3" TO ZOOM UP.
LET US PRESS "2" A FEW TIMES.
<end>
NOW LET US PRESS "3" A FEW TIMES.
<end>
THE LOCATION OF THE CURSOR DETERMINES WHICH AREA OF THE
SCREEN IS ZOOMED UP OR DOWN.
PLEASE NOTICE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CURSOR LOCATION IN THE
FOLLOWING DEMONSTRATION.
<end>
MOVE THE CURSOR OVER THE TABLE AND ZOOM UP BY PRESSING "3".
<end>
LET US QUICKLY ZOOM DOWN AND THEN ZOOM UP TO A CHAIR BY
FIRST MOVING THE CURSOR OVER A CHAIR, THEN PRESSING "3" A
FEW TIMES.
<end>
PANNING IS ALSO AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES. TO PAN, SIMPLY MOVE
THE CURSOR TOWARD ANY EDGE OF THE SCREEN AS THE CURSOR
TOUCHES THE EDGE OF THE DISPLAY AREA THE DISPLAY PANS IN THE
OPPOSITE DIRECTION. FOR EXAMPLE TO BETTER SEE THE CYAN
CHAIR LET US SLOWLY MOVE DOWN THE CURSOR UNTIL IT TOUCHES
THE EDGE OF THE SCREEN.
<end>
TO STOP PANNING THE CURSOR WAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE EDGE OF
THE SCREEN. PROPER USE OF ZOOMING AND PANNING REQUIRES SOME
PRACTICE. TRY THESE EXERCISES AT THE END OF THIS TUTORIAL.
YOU WILL FIND THAT BEFORE LONG ZOOMING AND PANNING WILL BE
SECOND NATURE. THE SPEED OF PANNING IS A FUNCTION OF HOW FAR
THE EDGE OF THE SCREEN IS PENETRATED.HERE IS AN EXAMPLE.
<end>
------------------------ PART FOUR -------------------------
THE "QUICK MENU" IS DISPLAYED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN
FOR QUICK ACCESS ONLY WHEN NO OTHER FUNCTION IS SELECTED.
THERE ARE 12 QUICK MENU BUTTONS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AREA
AND 12 FOR THE GROUPS AREA. USE THE FUNCTION "QUICK MENU"
LOCATED ON THE TWO MAIN MENUS FOR CUSTOMIZATION.
<end>
EACH FUNCTION HAS ITS SUBMENU THAT APPEARS AT THE BOTTOM OF
THE SCREEN (REPLACING THE QUICK MENU).
THE DEFAULT OPTIONS THAT ARE SELECTED APPEAR WITH
A WHITE BAR ABOVE THEM. LET US TRY THE FUNCTION "TEXT" AND
STUDY ITS SUBMENU.
<end>
"LEFT" (JUSTIFICATION) IS THE DEFAULT OPTION IN "TEXT". NOW
LET US CHANGE THAT TO "CENTR" (CENTER JUSTIFICATION).
<end>
NOW LET US SELECT THE "WINDW" (WINDOW) OPTION AND A WHITE
BAR APPEARS ABOVE "WINDW" OPTION AS WELL.
<end>
NOW TO TYPE MORE THAN ONE LINE OF TEXT SELECT "MULTI".
<end>
WITH THE CURRENT CONFIGURATION OF THE SUBMENU WE CAN CREATE
MULTI LINES OF CENTER JUSTIFIED TEXT INSIDE A WINDOW (AUTO-
MATICALLY CENTERED INSIDE THE WINDOW VERTICALLY) DRAWN IN
THE COLOR YELLOW AND WILL BE ON LEVEL 001.
