*********************** PARAMETERS ************************
THE "PARAMETER" FUNCTION'S SUBMENU OPTIONS CONTROL VARIOUS
PARAMETER WITHIN WHICH THE SOFTWARE OPERATES.
DURING THIS AND ALL TUTORIALS YOU SIMPLY SIT BACK AND THE
SYSTEM TAKES CARE OF EVERYTHING. ALL THAT IS REQUIRED OF
YOU IS TO READ DIALOGUE BOXES AND PRESS ANY KEY TO SEE MORE.
LET US SELECT THE "PARAMETER" FUNCTION FROM THE MENU.
<end>
THE WHITE GRID DOTS THAT YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN ARE THERE
TO ASSIST WITH THE PROCESS OF DESIGN/DRAFTING. THERE IS A
SPECIFIC DISTANCE BETWEEN ANY TWO GRID DOTS. THE CURSOR CAN
MOVE BETWEEN THE GRID DOTS WITH THE KEY "4" ON OR OFF. AT
THIS TIME KEY "4" IS OFF & THE GRID DOTS ARE WHITE.
LET US MOVE THE CURSOR OVER A GRID DOT.
<end>
FROM THIS POSITION LET US COUNT THE NUMBER OF INCREMENTAL
MOVEMENTS OF THE CURSOR TO REACH THE NEXT GRID DOT TO ITS
RIGHT. WE SHALL COUNT THESE STEPS VERY SLOWLY. LOOK AT THE
CURSOR AND COUNT.
<end>
THERE ARE 5 INCREMENTAL SPACES BETWEEN ANY TWO GRID DOTS.
THE OPTION "GRID" TO THE RIGHT OF THE SUBMENU BELOW CHANGES
THE THIS PARAMETER. LET US SELECT IT AND SET IT TO TEN.
<end>
NOTICE HOW THE GRID DOTS ARE SPACED FURTHER APART. LET US
COUNT THE NUMBER OF INCREMENTAL SPACES BETWEEN TWO DOTS.
<end>
LET US SET THIS VALUE BACK TO FIVE.
<end>
NOW LET US ZOOM UP AND TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE GRID DOTS.
<end>
WHEN YOU PRESS KEY "4" TO TURN IT ON, THE CURSOR MOVES IN
A DIFFERENT FASHION. LOOK AT HOW THE CURSOR MOVES BETWEEN
THESE TWO GRID DOTS.
<end>
NOW LET US PRESS KEY "4" AND SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY
THE CURSOR MOVES.
<end>
PRESS KEY "4".
<end>
AS YOU NOTICED THE INCREMENTAL MOVEMENTS ARE MUCH SMALLER.
WHEN KEY "4" IS ON, THE DISTANCE BY WHICH THE CURSOR MOVES
IS EQUAL TO A VALUE CALLED THE RESOLUTION. LET US LOOK AT
THE CURRENT VALUE OF THE RESOLUTION. WHEN YOU PRESS KEY "1"
TWICE THE FIRST TIME THE MENU APPEARS AND THE SECOND TIME
THE SYSTEM STATUS SCREEN APPEARS.
<end>
AS YOU PRESS ANY KEY TO ERASE THIS DIALOGUE BOX TAKE A LOOK
AT THE SECOND LINE DOWN WHERE IS WRITTEN: DRAWING RESOLUTION
AND TO THE RIGHT OF THAT IS WRITTEN 5.00000 mm (MILLIMETERS)
<end>
THEREFORE THE CURRENT RESOLUTION IS 5.0 MILLIMETERS. THE
SMALLER MOVEMENTS OF CURSOR ARE EQUAL TO 5.0 MILLIMETERS.
TO DEMONSTRATE THIS, LET US PRESS "0" TO SET THE CURSOR
COORDINATES TO ZERO THEN MOVE THE CURSOR ONE INCREMENT TO
THE RIGHT AND LOOK AT THE CURSOR COORDINATES.
<end>
AS YOU CAN SEE THE BOTTOM NUMBER IS ZERO SINCE THE CURSOR
DID NOT MOVE VERTICALLY. THE TO NUMBER IS 0.005 METERS OR
5 MILLIMETERS. THE REASON WHY THE COORDINATES ARE IN METERS
IS THAT THE COORDINATE SYSTEM HAS BEEN SET TO METERS USING
THE FUNCTION "COORDINATE" & THE WORD METERS IS DISPLAYED ON
THE STATUS LINE ABOVE IN THE COLOR RED.
<end>
USING THE FUNCTION "COORDINATE" IF YOU SELECT A DIFFERENT
UNIT OF MEASUREMENT SUCH AS CENTIMETERS THEN THE ALL NUMBERS
DISPLAYED BY THE SYSTEM AND ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM ARE IN
CENTIMETERS. SEE THE TUTORIAL ON "COORDINATE".
LET US SELECT "PARAMETERS" FROM THE MENU.
<end>
THE RESOLUTION OF THE SYSTEM CAN BE CHANGED BY SELECTING THE
OPTION "RESOL" AND RESPONDING TO TWO PROMPTS. FIRST YOU
ENTER THE LETTER "I" FOR INCHES OR "M" FOR MILLIMETERS. THEN
YOU ENTER THE SMALLEST DISTANCE BY WHICH THE CURSOR SHOULD
MOVE, AND THAT BECOMES THE RESOLUTION OF THE SYSTEM.
READ THE SECTION IN THE MANUAL TITLED RESOLUTION.
<end>
THE OPTION "GRID" TO THE LEFT OF THE MENU MOVES THE GRID TO
ANY LOCATION ON THE SCREEN. LET US USE OPTION TO MOVE THE
ENTIRE GRID SYSTEM TO THE LEFT.
<end>
SELECT "GRID".
<end>
NOW SELECT ANY POINT ON THE SCREEN TO START THE GRID FROM.
<end>
UPON ACTIVATION OF THE CURSOR THE ENTIRE GRID SYSTEM WAS
MOVED TO PASS THROUGH THE CURRENT LOCATION OF THE CURSOR.
<end>
THE GRID CAN BE TURNED ON AND OFF USING THE OPTION "ONOFF".
<end>
KEY "4" DETERMINES WHETHER THE CURSOR MOVES IN LARGE OR
SMALL INCREMENTS. THE VALUE OF THE OPTION "SNAP" IS MULTI-
PLIED BY THE RESOLUTION (SMALL INCREMENTS) TO DETERMINE THE
LARGE INCREMENT.
REMEMBER THAT BY PRESSING "H" YOU ACCESS THE ON-LINE HELP.
<end>
THE CURRENT VALUE OF SNAP IS SET TO TEN. THEREFORE TEN
TIMES THE RESOLUTION OF 5 MILLIMETERS IS FIFTY MILLIMETER.
HENCE THE LARGE MOVEMENT OF THE CURSOR IS A DISTANCE OF 50
MILLIMETERS AND THE SMALL MOVEMENT OF THE CURSOR IS FIVE.
MILLIMETERS.
<end>
THE SNAP DISTANCE IS EVIDENT ON THE SYSTEM STATUS SCREEN,
DISPLAYED BY PRESSING KEY "1" A SECOND TIME.
<end>
PRESS "0" TO SET CURSOR COORDINATES TO ZERO.
<end>
MOVE CURSOR TO THE RIGHT ONE INCREMENTAL DISTANCE.
<end>
NOTICE THAT THE CURSOR COORDINATE'S TOP NUMBER IS .05 METERS
OR 50 MILLIMETERS.
LET US SELECT "SNAP" AND ENTER A VALUE OF 20.
<end>
THE CURSOR IS ON TOP OF THE GRID DOT WHERE THE COORDINATES
WERE SET TO ZERO, NOW MOVE IT RIGHT ONE INCREMENTAL DISTANCE
& THE VALUE SHOULD BE 20 TIMES 5 MILLIMETERS OR 0.1 METERS.
<end>
LET US SET THE "SNAP" VALUE BACK TO TEN.
<end>
PRESSING KEY "7" (OR ORTHO) FORCES LINES TO BE DRAWN AT THE
VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONS WHILE 4 DOT SURROUND THE
CURSOR AS A VISUAL INDICATOR OF KEY "7" BEING ACTIVE.
LET US PRESS KEY "7". NOTICE THE FOR DOTS AROUND THE CURSOR.
<end>
THE DEFAULT VALUE FOR THE OPTION "KEY 7" BELOW IS 45 DEGREES
WHICH MEANS THAT LINES WILL BE DRAWN AT EVERY 45 DEGREES.
OTHER VALUES SMALLER THAN 45 RENDER DIFFERENT RESULTS.
<end>
THE OPTION "CENTR" IS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SYSTEM'S
ABSOLUTE MODE. SEE THE DISCUSSION IN THE MANUAL UNDER THE
TITLE OF "CURSOR COORDINATE". SELECTING THE OPTION "CENTR"
MUST BE FOLLOWED BY ACTIVATING THE CURSOR ON THE SCREEN.
THIS PROCEDURE CAUSES THE SYSTEMS ABSOLUTE 0,0 TO BE PLACED
AT THE CURSORS LOCATION.
<end>
