  16.    A) INSTALLATION:
  17.    copy sr.exe into any subdir in your PATH.
  18.

  20.    B) USAGE:
  21.    Sr.exe can to be used from the DOS commandline 
  22.    or may be invoked via icon from the Win95 desktop directly.

  25.    1)  commandline usage:
  26.  
  27.    sr [path][targetfile] [path][replace_string_file] [-r]
  28.  
  29.    targetfile: any ascii file (.txt, .html etc.)
  30.    replace_string_file: see below
  31.    r-switch: replace recursively in dirs below current dir
  32.  
  33.    2)  replace_string_file structure:
  34.  
  35.    an ascii file containing any number of
  36.    pairs of strings that are to be replaced
  37.    one pair on each line,
  38.    original string first, replacement string second,
  39.    separated by any number of spaces.
  40.    Strings that consist of more than one separate substring
  41.    must be enclosed in quotes.
  42.    Replacement with "nothing": use "" (empty double quotes).

  58.    will replace the string-pairs contained in 
  59.    strings_to_be_replaced.txt in all HTML files in the 
  60.    current dir and all dirs below the current.

  62.    4)  From-within-Win95 usage:
  63.  
  64.    Establish a shortcut from sr.exe to your desktop.
  65.    If sr is evoked a window will open
  66.    and you will be prompted for the target_file, the 
  67.    replace_string_file and the start-dir.
  68.    A checkbox to select/de-select recursive action within
  69.    all dirs below the start-dir will appear too.

  71.    5)  Replace none-printable characters: (REGISTERED VERSION ONLY)

  73. ATTENTION: CHANGES FROM VERSION 1.0: 
  74.              ^f - FF Formfeed DO NOT USE ANYMORE
  75.              (because the letter "f" is similar to the
  76.              hex-number "f" this feature had to go)

  79.     None-printables can be replaced or added:

  81.     ^r  - CR (0Dh)
  82.     ^n  - LF (0Ah)
  83.     ^t  - TAB (08h)
  84.     ^^  - ^
  85.     ^"  - Quotation marks  "
  86.     ^n  - Newline
  87.     ^r  - Carriage return
  88.     ^t  - Horizontal tab
  89.     ^^  - ^ (Carret)

  91.     (e.g.: ^r^n will replace a carriage-return-newline glueing 
  92.      alle lines together to one long line)

  94.     You can also use the hexadecimal representation of
  95.     e.g. ansi codes (if you know them :-)) 
  96.     So if you know the hex-number of a character you may use:
  97.  
  98.     ^xx - xx= hex-number, i.e.. 5A or 7f
  99.

  101.    6)  Starting from the Windows desktop with shortcut:
  102.     
  103.     The shortcut properties window allows for entry of 
  104.     a commandline. Here you may specify target_file,
  105.     replace_string_file and a start-dir. (If you omit one
  106.     or more of the required parameters the 
  107.     startup-window will appear.)
  108.     Optional is only the "r" switch for recursive
  109.     replace-action.
  110.     You can configure multiple shortcuts with different 
  111.     filenames for various repetitive tasks.

  114.    C) THE REGISTERED VERSION/REGISTRATION:
  115.  
  116.    You are free to evaluate this program for 30 days.
  117.    After this time you are legaly obliged to REGISTER or delete 
  118.    sr.exe from your system.

  120.    The registered version allows you to replace none-printable 
  121.    characters (see list above). 
  122.    You will not receive any disks in the mail but a 5-character 
  123.    activation-code.
  124.    Here is how you activate (and register at the same time) the 
  125.    none-printable-replace function:

  127.    from the DOS commandline run:

  131.    if X123Y is your activation-code
