TITLE: LWP42D, Window's Dialer, SLIP/PPP Support
DOCUMENT ID: TID251031
DOCUMENT REVISION: B
DATE: 17NOV94
ALERT STATUS: Yellow
INFORMATION TYPE: Issue
README FOR: LWP42D.EXE
NOVELL PRODUCT and VERSION:
LAN WorkPlace for DOS 4.2
LAN WorkPlace for DOS 4.1
ABSTRACT:
LWP42D.EXE contains the 11/14/94 update for SLIP/PPP & Windows Dialer.
Provides a Windows "Dialer", an enhancement to the SLIP/PPP support in LAN
WorkPlace for DOS. The updated SLIP/PPP driver provides concurrent
connections with a LAN and SLIP/PPP. Several new features are provided
including the ability to be used with Dialer or Dialup from LAN WorkPlace, or
with some 3rd party communication software.

ISSUE
Provides (Windows) "Dialer", an easy way to dial into SLIP/PPP servers and run
LAN WorkPlace or WinSock based networking applications.
In addition, LWP42D should improve SLIP/PPP performance (higher rates) through
comm ports with 8250 and 16450 UARTs.
Dialer is a utility which establishes connections between a workstation, and
network dial-in services on TCP/IP networks. Dialer opens connections by
dialing in over telephone lines using the workstation's modem. Once
connected, you can use any combination of LAN WorkPlace or WinSock based
networking applications to communicate over the network. You can also set up
Dialer to make connections automatically and to answer incoming calls.

Installation Instructions:
ALL of the following steps are required.
1. Make a backup of your current SLIP_PPP.COM.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The files in LWP42D do not support Netware Client
[ip-tunnelling] or NFS Client access over SLIP/PPP. Therefore, some users of
DOS SLIP/PPP will not want to install LWP42D.
2. Download and install LWP42T.EXE (Updated LAN WorkPlace for DOS transport).
3. Download and install LWP42A.EXE (Updated LAN WorkPlace for DOS
Applications).
4. Download and install LWP42W.EXE (Updated Lan WorkPlace for DOS Windows
Applications).
5. Secure LSL.COM version 2.05 or later. The current version of LSL.COM is in
VLMUP1.EXE, which can be found in the NOVFILES Forum.
6. Copy the following files to \NET\BIN:
SLIP_PPP.COM Serial ODI driver (SLIP & PPP frames)
SLPMON.EXE VxD for Serial ODI to Windows API
SLPAPI.DLL DLL interface for Modem access via ODI
DIALER.EXE Dialer Main Program
DIALER.HLP Dialer Help file
MDMAPI.DLL Modem API Linkage DLL
CONFIG.EXE Initial Configuration Program
CONFIG.HLP Initial Configuration Help file
7. Copy the following files to \NET\HSTACC:
CODES.DLR International Area Code database
AIOMDMS.MDC Modem Definition Script collection
NOTE: If the "PATH LWP_CFG" variable points to a different path or series of
paths, put these two files there instead.
8. The use of Dialer requires that Windows run in "386 Enhanced" mode.
9. Read DIALER.TXT for required instructions to configure Dialer and make
changes to your system files. An online version of the Dialer manual is
provided in LWP206.EXE.
9. Read the "Specifics" section below regarding the new features and how to
implement them.
10. From time to time, a new version of AIOMDMS.MDC, supporting more modems,
will be available in Library 9 of NOVLIB, as NWCMOD.EXE.
Patch History:
LWP42D supersedes LWP203.
Specific Improvements:
SLIP_PPP.COM (R42-8, 941004)
----------------------------
A. Supports simultaneous LAN and SLIP/PPP connection.
B. An Auto-Reconnect process, so that if you use the keyword DIAL to initially
dial a number in NET.CFG, the following occurs:
- DOS: the number in the DIAL option will be used to re-dial.
- Windows DIALER: the last dialed entry will be called.
C. DCD drop detection for EXCLUSIVE mode.
D. More robust IPCP option 1 & 3 support.
E. Re-enables LWP4.1 options: DIAL, LISTEN, and RECONN.
F. DIALUP.EXE support (DOS Version of Dialer).
G. Can be used with third party communication software.
SLPMON.EXE (R42-8a, 940920)
---------------------------
A new "AutoConnect=" option can be configured as
(enabled/disabled) in the "[SLPMON]" section in LWP.INI.
SLPAPI.DLL (R42-8, 940926)
--------------------------
A. More robust connection detection by SLPMON will check:
- SLIP_PPP's internal variables and verify a SLIP/PPP connection.
- to see if Data Carrier Detect (DCD) is high, to verify a connection.
B. TCP/IP MultiHome Support is provided to enhance the ability of Dialer to
operate independently with the loading sequence of a MLID driver and
SLIP_PPP.COM.
C. Ability to Abort all opened sockets when a dialogue box appears with a
message "reconnect confirmation" and the user clicks the "NO" button.
