  3. SYMPTOM:
  4. This tip provides information concerning a potential data integrity
  5. problem on PS/2 micro channel systems configured with the adapters
  6. listed below.
  7.

  14. In normal circumstances, the chances of experiencing data
  15. corruption are extremely small.  However, the risk of data
  16. modification or loss can be eliminated in the noted hardware
  17. configurations by making the following changes:
  18.  
  19. a. Increase arbitration priority
  20.    (a lower arbitration number corresponds to a higher priority)
  21. b. Disable fairness
  22. c. Disable loop-back
  23. d. For 16-bit microchannel environments, set the receive buffer
  24.        size equal to the maximum frame size.
  25.  
  26. Items A and B are changed using "Change Configuration" (from
  27. the "Set and View Configuration" menu) on the System Partition.
  28.  
  29. Items C and D are changed by editing the PROTOCOL.INI file.
  30. (these are only required for NDIS)

  32. Temporary work-around:
  33. When the above configuration changes are made, the following
  34. PS/2 system/model configurations are NOT exposed to data
  35. modification:
  36.  
  37. - All PS/2 systems, including the 8600 models 195/295*, with
  38.   only 1 of the referenced EtherStreamer or LANStreamer
  39.   adapters installed.
  40.  
  41. Notes:
  42. - On PS/2 models 8595-AMX or 9595-AMX or any PS/2 upgraded with the
  43.   Enhanced 486/50MHz Enhanced Processor Upgrade option must have
  44.   ECA001 installed on the PC.
  45.  
  46. - On PS/2 9585 turn off the LANStreamer or EtherStreamer adapter's
  47.   data streaming function using "Change Configuration"
  48.  
  49. Fix:
  50. Corrected LANStreamer adapters are now available. There are new FRU
  51. numbers associated with these new adapters. Any adapters with the old
  52. FRU numbers needs to be replaced.
