Registry Information Database Exchange Formats and Protocols BOF (ride)
Wednesday, August 13 at 0900-1130
=================================
Chair: David Kessons <davidk@isi.edu>
DESCRIPTION:
Many different registry formats and access protocols ((r)whois(++)) for
Internet registries exist right now but cannot cooperate together. RIDE
explores the technical aspects and possibilities for an exchange schema
for at least Internet IP, routing and domain registries. This schema will
allow any Internet registry technology to work together with others for
most basic operations that are interesting from a global perspective. The
schema will be kept as simple as possible to allow for a minimal effort
for supporting RIDE in the current existing registry technologies. Work
has already commenced on a draft on the data types that were considered
most urgent right now (domain and personal data). More information is
available at: http://www.ISI.EDU/~davidk/ride.
AGENDA:
(Note: Rick Wesson & Dhaval Shah will not be in Munich,
so I will take over their part of the agenda)
- updates on the classes draft (Rick Wesson, Dhaval Shah)
- globally unique registry identifiers
(Wilfried Woeber, David Conrad, David Kessens)
We will be going through the draft and make decisions on all major
contentious issues which are identified by the authors.
The draft will be posted on the RIDE web site www.isi.edu/~davidk/ride/
and posted on the mailing list.
- formats and protocols (David Kessens)
a strawman proposal for a possible format and protocol for
exchanging the registry information. Draft is now available
at:
http://www.isi.edu/~davidk/ride/drafts/draft-ride-system.txt
It is the intention that we will try to identify the direction for a
simple and quickly implemantable solution and make decisions on the
features that we will support and not support, with the conditions as
put forward in our charter.
