  11. The Border Gateway Protocol Working Group meeting concentrated on the
  12. following issues:
  13.  
  14.    o Using BGP as an inter-autonomous system routing protocol for
  15.      multicast.
  16.  
  17.    o Interaction of BGP with OSPF.
  18.  
  19.    o Using BGP as an inter-autonomous system routing protocol in Large
  20.      Public Data Networks.
  21.  
  22.    o Repairing partitioned autonomous system with BGP.
  23.  
  24.      Scott Brim submitted a document that proposes several alternatives
  25.      for using BGP as an inter-autonomous system routing protocol.  The
  26.      Working group feels that before making any further recommendations
  27.      it needs more time to study the subject.

  29.      The group met jointly with several members of the OSPF Working
  30.      Group to discuss the issue of interaction between BGP and OSPF. It
  31.      was agreed that it is very important to produce a document that
  32.      will unambiguously define such interaction.  Several members of
  33.      both the OSPF and the BGP Working Groups agreed to work on such a
  34.      document.  We expect that the earlier draft of this document will
  35.      be available before the next IETF.

  37.      The BGP Working Group met jointly with the IPLPDN Working Group to
  38.      discuss how BGP can be used as an inter-autonomous system routing
  39.      protocol in Large Public Data Networks.  The discussion centered
  40.      around a presentation made by Paul Tsuchiya.  Paul agreed to write
  41.      a document that specifies how BGP should be used in such an
  42.      environment.  As part of this effort, Paul suggested adding new
  43.      attributes to BGP that would identify the MAC address of the BGP
  44.      peer.  The document that describes this attribute will be posted to
  45.      the BGP mailing list in the near future.
  46.  
  47.      Dennis Ferguson proposed a mechanism that would allow for repairing
  48.      a partitioned autonomous system with BGP. This involves the
  49.      addition of a new attribute.  The document that describe this
  50.      attribute and how it should be used in repairing a partitioned
  51.      autonomous system will be posted to the BGP mailing list in the
  52.      near future.
