  29. Description of Working Group:

  31. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a set of protocols for conducting
  32. highly structured inter-organization exchanges, such as for making
  33. purchases.  The working group will produce specifications for the use
  34. of EDI standards over the Internet, with an initial focus on the
  35. transport of EDI via Internet e-mail.  The EDI community is large,
  36. diverse and well-established.  This working group effort is explicitly
  37. NOT intending to specify or modify any of the details of EDI protocols
  38. themselves.  Instead, it will focus on the requirements for proper
  39. carriage of EDI over the Internet, attending only to issues of
  40. encapsulation, addressing, security and the like.

  42. Initial efforts by the working group will focus on two deliverables:
  43. specification for the carriage of various EDI content via MIME-based
  44. e-mail, and a discussion document, considering issues in the use of
  45. EDI over the Internet.  The usage document will cover such issues as
  46. addressing and security.

  52.                 ``interchange'' transactions via MIME-based e-mail as an 
  53.                 Internet-Draft.

  56.                 transport) to the IESG for consideration as a Proposed 
  57.                 Standard.

  59.    Jul 94       Complete outline for usage document and include it in the 
  60.                 minutes from the Toronto IETF.
