  25. Description of Working Group:

  27. The goal of the working group is to update and standardize the popular
  28. SSH protocol. SSH provides support for secure remote login, secure file
  29. transfer, and secure TCP/IP and X11 forwardings. It can automatically
  30. encrypt, authenticate, and compress transmitted data.  The working
  31. group will attempt to assure that the SSH protocol
  32.  
  33.  o  provides strong security against cryptanalysis and protocol attacks,
  34.  
  35.  o  can work reasonably well without a global key management or
  36.     certificate infrastructure,
  37.  
  38.  o  can utilize existing certificate infrastructures (e.g., DNSSEC,
  39.     SPKI, X.509) when available,
  40.  
  41.  o  can be made easy to deploy and take into use,
  42.  
  43.  o  requires minimum or no manual interaction from users,
  44.  
  45.  o  is reasonably clean and simple to implement.
  46.  
  47. The resulting protocol will operate over TCP/IP or other reliable but
  48. insecure transport. It is intended to be implemented at the application
  49. level.
