  26. The Token Ring Remote Monitoring MIB Working Group is chartered to
  27. produce a new MIB specification that extends the facilities of the
  28. existing Remote Monitoring (RMON) MIB (RFC 1271) for use in monitoring
  29. IEEE 802.5 Token Ring networks.
  30.  
  31. The Token Ring RMON MIB extensions will be developed in the same
  32. architectural framework as the existing Ethernet-based RMON MIB.  The
  33. original RMON MIB architecture was designed with the intention of
  34. incorporating MIB extensions devoted to monitoring other network media
  35. types.  This Token Ring activity is the first attempt at such
  36. integration.

  38. In creating the Token Ring Extensions, the working group will, wherever
  39. possible, conform to terminology and concepts defined by relevant IEEE
  40. standards.  It may be that a MIB devoted to monitoring may need to
  41. expand on the IEEE objects and definitions.  Such modifications will
  42. be accompanied by a detailed rationale.

  44. All work produced by the Token Ring Remote Monitoring Working Group
  45. will be consistent with the existing SNMP network management framework
  46. and standards.
