  4. The Trunk MIB Working Group met for 24 minutes, 8 of which were spent
  5. waiting for certain key players to arrive. It was one of the more efficient
  6. meetings on record.

  8. Status of outstanding work:
  9.  
  10. The DS0, DS1, and DS3 MIBs have cleared last call, and are awaiting a
  11. ballot to be submitted. Advancement of DS0 to Proposed Standard is not
  12. deemed problematic, but at this time no responses to the call for
  13. implementations have been received indicating implementation of the Far End
  14. groups of DS1 or DS3. Advancement of DS1 and DS3 to Draft Standard is
  15. therefore stalled until the chair can either demonstrate two interoperable
  16. implementations of the far end groups or convince the editor to remove them
  17. from the MIB.

  24. Simple translation: Nexen and AD&C Kentrox have not replied to the call for
  25. implementations. The chair would appreciate responses from them and any
  26. other implementors of the MIBs, especially those implementing the far end
  27. groups. This will permit him to forward the ballot to the NM AD.

  31. DDS MIB: the draft has expired, the author of the draft has moved to
  32. another company, and appears to be no longer interested in the work. James
  33. Watt will check with other DDS manufacturers to find if there exist other
  34. interested parties to continue it. Failing that, the MIB is dead.

  36. Supplemental DS1 MIB: At the Montreal IETF, James Watt suggested to the
  37. author of the Supplemental DS1 MIB that rather than publish it, the working
  38. group should use the DISMAN work. Since then, two implementations of the
  39. current draft have been done, whose implementors tell the MIB's author that
  40. the approach is viable, and a DS3 clone has been designed and mailed to the
  41. working group mailing list. The chair of DISMAN, who attended the Trunk MIB
  42. meeting, indicates that DISMAN has not advanced far enough for Trunk MIB to
  43. depend on it at this time. Hearing the recommendation of the chair of
  44. DISMAN, and in consultation with the Supplemental DS1 MIB's author, James
  45. dropped his objection. Therefore, the assembled working group members have
  46. instructed the author of Supplemental DS1 MIB to follow the original model
  47. at this time.

  49. Rumi S. Gonda has cloned the MIB for DS3; the chair will ask Rumi to post
  50. that as an Internet Draft, and contact Kaj Tesink asking him to similarly
  51. clone the MIB for SONET. These three MIBs will be advanced together to the
  52. IESG.
