IMPORTANT NOTICE
As promised, this is the full version of Cavern Duel. We have released
it as freeware, as we realise that it is not up to the high standard that
Acorn games players deserve, thus making it difficult to justify
giving it a price tag.
This is the first and last release of Cavern Duel. Since 1993, when
development started, the time devoted to it has become less and less,
and it has now reached the point where it is not worth doing any more.
We cannot promise whether there will be a sequel. At the moment, the answer
is no, as we cannot commit ourselves for the forseeable future. Graeme will
be continuing to write games, but myself will not be programming any more, as
my interest in graphics and multimedia authoring takes priority.
A couple of changes have been made to the game, and the editor has been
tweaked slightly. Both applications have a History file in their Documents
directories, which can be accessed by shift-double clicking the applications.
This release of the game uses a timing loop, so StrongArm users can play
the game at a safe speed (we hope. See the 'Machines' file for more details),
and the 1mb memory saving routine has been removed, as from the demo,
because the routine was actually crashing the test machine I was
using at IDG House, while I worked there in the summer of 1997, on the
third Acorn User cover CD-ROM!
All the contact details can be found in the !Help file within !CavenDuel.
So do drop us a line. We are always interested to hear from fellow Acorn
users about the general scene, or other matters.
All the best,
Stephen Scott
