2 - Installation
* [ You don't have enough conventional memory ]
3 - How to Play ?
a ) Game modes
b ) Keep Control
* [SPECIAL] Why ?
TO ORDER BOOM! MASTER, PLEASE REFER TO THE ORDER
INFORMATIONS TEXT FILE (ORDER.TXT).
--------------------------------
1 - SYSTEM REQUIEREMENTS
--------------------------------
- IBM PC 486 or better (too slow on 386)
- a VGA card
- 545 kb of conventional memory
OPTIONS :
- a 100 % compatible Sound Blaster card for music and sfx
or an Adlib card for music only.
- a Joystick/Joypad
--------------------------------
2 - INSTALLATION
--------------------------------
Launch 'INSTALL.EXE' and follow instructions.
Then run 'SETUP.EXE' to setup the game.
-----------------
THE SETUP PROGRAM
-----------------
- Choose Music Sound card : Setup Music
* 2 possibilies :
[1] A 100% compatible Sound Blaster card. Select Sound Blaster
and set the Base adress (default base adress is in BLASTER value).
[2] An Adlib compatible sound card. Select Adlib. That's all.
_______________________________________________________________________
If you've got a sound blaster and if you don't hear any music while
in the game, or if you've got another sound card, try the Adlib setting.
Most sound cards are Adlib compatible (sound blasters are).
_______________________________________________________________________
- Choose Sound FX Card : Setup Sound FX
This time, only sound blaster compatible owners can hear SFX.
Normally, the game will detect automatically the type of your sound
blaster. However, if you encounter any problem ( "I run the game and
my machine reboot" for instance), try to run it without SFX.
PARAMETERS :
- Base Adress, IRQ Number, DMA Channel
(Setup program uses BLASTER values as default. Verify that the line
SET BLASTER=??? is in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file).
- Mixing Frequence
- Number of Channels to mix
WARNING !!! If your machine is slow, these settings are very important.
Choose small values or the game will be too slow.
EXAMPLE : Mixing Frequence : 8 khz - Channels : 2
- Choose controls :
2 modes : Mode 1 (Keyboard for player 1 & 2),
or
Mode 2 (Joystick for player 1 & Keyboard for player 2).
!!! CALIBRATE YOUR JOYSTICK CORRECTLY !!!
for more details, read section 3-b) KEEP CONTROL.
Normally, you can play now. Run 'BMASTER.EXE' and press <RETURN>.
[ YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CONVENTIONAL MEMORY ]
-----------------------------------------------
If you get an error message that says, "You need at least XXX kb of
conventional memory", it means that you do not have enough free memory
in the first 640Kb (conventional). This memory is used by DOS and by
other programs loaded into memory.
- For DOS 5.0, you can load some resident programs into HIGH memory, and
for DOS 6.0, the program MEMMAKER.EXE will do it for you (Please consult
your DOS manual for instructions). You can also create a bootable floppy
disk to "boot clean". This means to boot your system without loading any
unnecessary memory resident programs (see below).
If you have DOS 6 or higher, you have two ways of booting clean without
the need for a boot disk. The fastest way is to reboot your computer and
watch for a message that says "Starting MS-DOS" (IBM versions will say
either "Starting PC DOS" or "Starting IBM DOS"). When you see this
message, press your F8 function key. You will then be prompted to
confirm each line of your current CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
This will allow you to temporarily turn off the programs that you do not
need or that may be causing problems. ONLY ANSWER "YES" TO THE LINES
SHOWN BELOW AND THE "OK to process AUTOEXEC.BAT?" QUESTION. When
finished, you will be left at a plain C:\> prompt.
If you are more familiar with DOS, the best way is that you set up a
multi-boot option. These newer versions of DOS allow you to set up
multiple boot configuration sections in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
files, mostly eliminating the need for boot disks. Again, please consult
your DOS manual for instructions on how to create a boot disk, or a
multi-boot configuration using the parameters stated below.
" CREATE A BOOTABLE FLOPPY DISK "
A bootable floppy disk allows you to boot your system without loading any
unnecessary memory resident programs. First, you'll have to format a
floppy disk (See the FORMAT /S command). Then, copy from the root directory
of your main hard drive the file called CONFIG.SYS and the file called
AUTOEXEC.BAT.
These files should only contain the following lines:
CONFIG.SYS
==========
FILES=30
BUFFERS=30
STACKS=9,256
<if your sound card requires a line in config.sys, put it here>
<if you use disk compression, make sure to load that driver>
<if you require a driver to access your hard drive, make sure to use it>
AUTOEXEC.BAT
============
@echo off
<your path line>
<your prompt line>
<if your sound card requires a line in autoexec.bat, put it here>
SET BLASTER=< >
- If you are running Windows 95, you will need to press the F8 key when
you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, and then pick the option that
says "Command Prompt Only". This will prevent you from going into the
GUI (desktop) portion of Windows 95. Windows 95 is still capable of
having multiple boot configurations, and we strongly urge you to create
one.
-----------------------------
3 - HOW TO PLAY ?
-----------------------------
-------------------------------------
a ) GAME MODES
-------------------------------------
First, you can play BOOM! MASTER alone or with a friend (Battle Mode).
In any case, you are an expert in explosives. You handle dynamite like
nobody else. In any game mode, you begin with one weak bomb.
To increase the power of your bombs and the number you can put, you'll
have to collect items hidden under certain elements you'll have to
destroy. There are a lot of items. See the online Help in the game for
more informations.
------------- ONE PLAYER GAME ----------------------
You are JAKA, the Boom Masters'tournament present champion.
You decide to fight for the title once again to counter Dark forces'
plans (Why not?).
The aim of the game is to reach the tournament's place far in the
desert. You'll have to cross 3 various countries. Each country contains
6 levels... Good Luck !
-------------- FIGHT MODE GAME (2 players game) ---------------------
This is the training area. Choose your fighter between JAKA (Player 1),
the champion, and AKOU (Player 2), his challenger, and explode all
that you can. Specially your opponent. Choose the number of rounds
you wish (max 99). It's a fight for pleasure not for title.
-------------- ULTIMATE CHALLENGE (2 players game) -----------------
(Not available in Shareware version - Read Order.txt)
That's it ! The great final between AKOU and JAKA, 2 small (but strong
yet!) champions. To win, take more rounds than your opponent during the
30 chained levels of the ultimate challenge.
Will we have a new champion ?
----------------------------------

[SPECIAL] Why ?
-------------------------
Certain Special items need a special key (YES!).
EXAMPLE : The Time-Bomb item
You put a bomb with the normal key and you explode it when you want with
the special key.
There is more. The Boom Master has many skills : He can use a plane or
(with a special item) turn into a flying dragoon. In these cases, you still
can put your bombs but you can also shoot flying enemies with the special key.
This is useful,isn't it?
