  1. WinEd is a shareware template editor. Please see the documentation for
  2. conditions of use.

  4. Important: If you are upgrading from version 2.20 or earlier, delete the
  5. WinEdReg application. Registration is now handled from WinEd's banner.

  7. From version 2.52 Choices are stored in a Risc PC's boot structure in
  8. preference to WinEd's own directory.
  9.  
  10. A couple of important new features were introduced in version 2.45:
  11.  
  12.   There is an option (off by default) to allow selections to be moved with
  13.   the cursor keys without holding the mouse button.
  14.  
  15.   It now uses dynamic areas on a Risc PC. The maximum size is set in the
  16.   !Run file and can be edited if necessary. Virtualise is not specifically
  17.   supported; templates aren't usually that big! The main aim of dynamic
  18.   areas in WinEd is to prevent memory used for editing files from imposing a
  19.   limit on general workspace, whose requirements can not be accurately
  20.   predicted.

  22. Documentation is provided in two forms: a plain text !Help file within the
  23. !WinEd directory, and a file ("Manual") suitable for Impression Style or
  24. Publisher. The latter contains the same text as the help file, but nicely
  25. formatted; it is set up to print two A5 pages per A4 page.

  27. In future the manuals will not be updated with every single bug fix,
  28. only when there is a significant change in functionality. The History
  29. file should be adequate for pointing out any minor changes.

  31. Note about keyboard short cuts:
  32. The short cut for Delete is ^K. ^X, Delete and <-| (Backspace) are no longer
  33. supported; they are reserved for applications that use Cut & Paste. The short
  34. cut for Work area... (open Edit work area dialogue) was originally ^K, so
  35. has had to be changed to ^O.
  36. I haven't bothered to document keyboard short cuts, no one would learn them
  37. all by heart from reading, you just gradually pick them up from the menus.

  39. Note about BorderUtils & NewLook:
  40. BorderUtils is a module to fix a bug in RISC OS 3.1. WinEd, like any
  41. application with 3D slabbing icons, needs it. It comes with NewLook and as a
  42. stand-alone from good PD libraries. WinEd was also designed with sprites from
  43. NewLook in mind, some of the old ones look awful now.
