Fnordadel v1.32-51 Public Release (91Aug31)
-------------------------------------------
IF YOU ARE ALREADY RUNNING A V1.32 REVISION
If you are already running a revision of v1.32, here is what you need to do
to use the v1.32-51 programs in this distribution:
1) MAKE A BACKUP! Two would be even better.
2) Wipe out ALL of the current programs and replace them with the ones from
this release.
3) Consult the new ctdlcnfg.doc and add new stuff from it to your
ctdlcnfg.sys file.
4) Delete ctdltabl.sys and run the new configur.tos to configure the system.
5) Proceed to the "FINAL STEPS FOR EVERYBODY" section.
----------
IF YOU ARE NOT RUNNING A V1.32 REVISION
To upgrade to v1.32 from any version prior to v1.32, you must first have
system files in the format used by v1.31-28. If you have these, proceed to the
"NOW THAT YOU HAVE V1.31-28 SYSTEM FILES" section. If you don't have these,
here's how to get them.
IF YOU ARE RUNNING V1.30
If you are running a version newer than any revision of v1.30, skip the
following steps. However, if you are running any revision of v1.30, follow
these steps to convert your v1.30 system files to v1.31-28:
1) MAKE A BACKUP! Two would be even better.
2) Nuke your ctdltabl.sys file.
3) Nuke your loop zapper database file `#netdir\ctdlloop.zap'. The loop
zapper format has changed, and trying to use an old file will be a fairly
nasty experience. If you're fussy you can use makezt.tos when you're
up and running to regenerate a zap file from your message base.
4) Examine ctdlcnfg.doc to see what's been added, and merge the new stuff
into your old ctdlcnfg.sys file.
5) If you wish to make use of the new #roomdir, create it manually in the
proper location and move all your roomnnnn.sys files from #sysdir to
the new #roomdir.
6) Run cfg13128.tos. If the program gives you any fatal errors due to
v1.32 parameters, termporarily comment them out in order to generate
your v1.31-28 system files. The program will definitely give you a
number of non-fatal warning messages about unsupported variables; these
you can safely ignore. There will also be some gibberish output
regarding archiver stuff, if you defined any; this is debugging info, so
again, you may ignore it with impunity.
7) Proceed to the "NOW THAT YOU HAVE V1.31-28 SYSTEM FILES" section.
IF YOU ARE RUNNING V1.31 PRIOR TO V1.31-28
If you are running v1.31-28 or executed the above steps, skip the following
steps. However, if you are running a revision of v1.31 earlier than -28,
follow these steps to convert your v1.31 system files to v1.31-28:
1) MAKE A BACKUP! Two would be even better.
2) Nuke your ctdltabl.sys file.
3) Examine ctdlcnfg.doc to see what's been added, and merge the new stuff
into your old ctdlcnfg.sys file.
4) Run cfg13128.tos. If the program gives you any fatal errors due to
v1.32 parameters, termporarily comment them out in order to generate
your v1.31-28 system files.
5) Proceed to the "NOW THAT YOU HAVE V1.31-28 SYSTEM FILES" section.
----------
NOW THAT YOU HAVE V1.31-28 SYSTEM FILES
At this point, you should have system files in v1.31-28 format. Follow
these steps to convert your v1.31-28 system files to v1.32:
1) MAKE A BACKUP! Two would be even better.
2) Do NOT nuke your v1.31-28 ctdltabl.sys file!
3) Copy conv32.tos to the directory containing ctdltabl.sys, and run it.
It will convert your ctdllog.sys file to the new format, leaving the old
one behind as ctdllog.old.
4) Now you can nuke your ctdltabl.sys file.
5) If you commented out any v1.32 parameters in either of the above
sections, uncomment them now.
6) Run configur.tos. You should now have all system files converted to
v1.32 format.
7) Proceed to the "FINAL STEPS FOR EVERYBODY" section.
----------
FINAL STEPS FOR EVERYBODY
You're almost done. Here are the pieces that you need to complete the
switch.
1) You may or may not want to run the flipbits.tos utility to give door/
net/mail privs to all of your existing users in one swell foop.
2) Examine the new help files. Copy all the .mnu files to wherever you keep
your running helpfiles. If you've done local mods to the .hlp files
you'll need to check which ones have new stuff in them and merge them
with yours. There are some new .blb files as well, some of which will
need modification to reflect parameters you set in ctdlcnfg.sys.
3) Change the name of your directory room description files from .dir to
.fdr.
4) That's it! You should now be up and running with the v1.32 public
release!
Check the man pages for changes. Also have a look at increm.doc, which
details all of the (visible) changes we've made since the v1.30 public release.
----------
LAST WORDS
Let us know about any bugs. We've tested the system pretty thoroughly and
it should be robust, but there are always problems.
