Aide and Co-Sysop Quick Reference
The name of this topic is slightly misleading, since it deals with commands
available to users with either Aide or Co-Sysop privileges. Here are some of
the more useful things that can be done by these privileged users:
o Visit the hidden Aide> room
o Copy/Delete/Move messages
o Create a room
o Edit a room
o Kill a room
o Create floors
o Kill floors
o Move rooms from floor to floor
Most changes are accounted for by the Fnordadel system and are recorded
under the user's name in the Aide> room for scrutiny by other Aides and
Co-Sysops. If a person is found to be abusing his or her privileges, such
privileges may be removed at the discretion of the Sysop.
Procedures are as follows:
TO COPY/DELETE/MOVE MESSAGES:
1a) Hit [P]ause while viewing the message to be copied/deleted/moved. Hit
[D]elete to enter the message copy/delete/move sub-menu.
OR
1b) While using "more" to read messages, hit [D]elete after the display of
the message to be copied/deleted/moved.
2) The system will then print out a prompt like:
[A]bort [C]opy [D]elete [M]ove:
Hit [A]bort if you decide that you don't want to do anything with the
message. Otherwise, enter the appropriate command. The system will ask
for confirmation of the command.
3) If you selected [C]opy or [M]ove above, then the system will ask you
for a destination:
Copy to (C/R = `<some room>'):
or Move to (C/R = `<some room>'):
where "<some room>" is the default destination. "<some room>" is always
the last room into which a message was placed, or it is the Aide> room
if the command hasn't been used since the system was last brought up.
4) Your name and a copy of the affected message will be logged in Aide>.
TO CREATE A ROOM:
The .E(nter) R(oom) command will let you create a new room. You will be
prompted for various bits of information, such as private vs. public status
and the text to be used with the room [I]nfo command. Further changes can
be made to the room by editting it. The Sysop may enable this command for
use by all users, if greater creative expression is desired.
TO EDIT A ROOM:
The .(A)ide E(dit) command will allow you to rename the room you're in,
make it public/private, anonymous, etc. A Co-Sysop can make more changes
than can an Aide. Hit "?" at the room edit prompt to see the available
options. All change(s) will be logged under your name in Aide>.
TO KILL A ROOM:
The .A(ide) K(ill) command will delete the room you are in, regardless
of contents. This will be logged under your name in Aide>. The Sysop may
disable this command for use by Aides, if greater security is desired.
TO CREATE A FLOOR:
The ;A(ide) C(reate-floor) command will create a new floor. You must
move rooms to the floor when prompted, or it will be deleted immediately;
empty floors are not permitted.
TO KILL A FLOOR:
The ;A(ide) K(ill-floor) command will kill the floor you are on. If you
are a Co-Sysop, you have the option of killing all the rooms on the floor,
otherwise all the rooms will be moved to the base floor. The Sysop may
disable this command for use by Aides, if greater security is desired.
TO MOVE ROOMS FROM FLOOR TO FLOOR:
The ;A(ide) M(ove-rooms) command will move rooms to the floor you are
on. A message listing the moved rooms will be placed in Aide>.
NOTES: For mainly obvious reasons, most room-changing commands can not be
used to modify the Lobby>, Mail> and Aide> rooms. Deleting a message in Aide>
is also not permitted, since Aide> is where deleted messages are placed. For
internal reasons, moving messages into Mail> is not allowed.
