Disclaimer:
This was complied by the chaps at status.gen.nz to get our Atari Users
interested in Usenet/Internet.. We are _not_ the author's merely the
uploaders of the is fine mailer and associated programs. We run a MBBS
called STaTus BBS where we have the Z*NET International News Gateway
to fido and usenet (this is for Z*NET PC magazine) and we have free
access for all our users to usenet/internet. To encourge them to use
Usenet on the Atari we have sent this implimented version.
Notes:
You will need to make these folders in the MERCURY directory.
Folder Comments
------ --------
C:\MERCURY <- WHERE ALL THIS GOES the HOME directory
C:\mercury\adm <- for the admin files
C:\mercury\guests <- where you make your user file
C:\mercury\guests\a_user <- default user name
C:\mercury\guests\root <- system/root/sysop user
C:\mercury\guests\server <- the server folder
C:\mercury\hosts <- where you keep the systems/hosts you call
C:\mercury\mqueue <- where you mail que is located
C:\mercury\news <- where all the news goes
C:\mercury\spool <- where outgoing mail is located
C:\mercury\spool\status <- the outgoing mail to status.gen.nz
C:\mercury\spool\uucp <- ditto for site called uucp
C:\mercury\temp <- where the temp files are dumped
In the directory c:\mercury\hosts place the file HOST
In the directory c:\mercury\guests\a_user place the file SIGNATUR.NET
In the directory c:\mercury\news place the file ACTIVE as well.
If in doubt read the config.sys file it has all the paths....
Drive "C" is currently set as the default drive but you can use
any drive floppy or hard disk. Just change the config.sys to match
your choice of paths.
I hope you enjoy this as we do here. If you have any questions
please feel free to call/email me on the following systems or
Directly to the author at his address in the main docs.
Opps more important stuff:
I might suggest you use Gulam rather than the command program I have
included (this was done as the users here do not know alot about *nix)
as it has a problem with passing capital letters to the mercury prg's.
To run this simply Click on COMMAND.TOS and you are all go.
(I have not implimented the Emailer as you will have to this at your
location,(get a MAP) the news is all working less your HOST name)
The editor I have included is VIX an Atari implimentation of "VI" and it
is good. If you want another just change the config file, be sure to read
VIX.DOC for the command..
Simply they are ..
Y to confirm the file name
I to enter edit or insert mode
ESC to escape for edit/insert mode
ZZ to save the file
DO NOT use Tempus or a GEM based editor, well you can if you like to see
your machine blow apart at the seams (na just kidding) use a TOS based
editor like emacs or what ever I just like VIX..

Jon Clarke
